Recently had a bike theft so have now had the house, brick shed and cellar fully alarmed. I'm planning on a floor anchor or two and some heavy chains. Has anyone suffered a theft with an a alarm?
Yes, I suffered the destruction of a garage door and the loss of 2 very nice bikes with an alarm.
Luckily the alarm went off instantly and they left with the bikes because the garage is connected to the house and a neighbours CCTV revealed 4 big blokes ripping the door open and coming inside. In that situation I'd much rather they just leave. Without the alarm who knows what they would have done.
Were the bikes locked in any way? (how bizarre, I was just looking up a shark attack in 2005 off Adelaide)
They weren't locked up. We'd just moved in the year before and the garage was still being arranged. I've got Hiplok Ankr's and Kryptonite chains now so they're going nowhere. It's just a shame that the new bike is nowhere near as nice as the one I lost. The garage door has also been screwed shut ever since. I really need a new one but it's the best part of 2k for a decent roller door.
I used to use the cars to block the door but the one night I left a big enough gap they went for it. We'd been in hospital all week with a 4 month old baby who had a virus. It was our first night back in the house and I couldn't be bothered to go out and shuffle the cars around.
Yep, seems like cameras and video bells don't make much difference if they've a mask and baseball cap.
