I'm getting to the stage now where it's difficult finding comfortable footwear and have to put up with sharp toe pain on extended walks and rides.
If you have similar, how do you manage yours? Any footwear recommendations?
Anyone got any success or failure experiences with surgery, NHS or private?
Wife avoided surgery by using correct toes and wide tie box barefoot style shoes.

I had one which kind of sat there for years doing not a lot before it gradually began growing and getting more painful. I had to jump through a lot of hoops in terms of trying out insoles etc before finally being offered surgery.
Must have been about a year between me first going to the doctor with it and finally getting a surgery appointment (and even that got postponed a couple of times). Anyway, removal was quick and easy (local anaesthetic, 1hr operation, out same day) and I was back doing gentle rides within a couple of weeks. Surprisingly it was easier to ride (stiff-soled SPD shoes) than to walk in trainers (bending foot in the process).
Best thing I did having it removed, it was a massive embarrassing lump, it was painful and in spite of what the adverts on social media will have you believe, it does not go away and cannot be reversed or cured. Get yourself to the GP, say it's painful, push as much as you can for surgery. Mine was NHS by the way, local cottage hospital that specialises in podiatry.
Mrs BH had bunions in both feet fixed in two operations a year apart funded through company medical scheme.  From memory it involved an overnight stay but only because she went under the knife late in the day.  Recovery was pretty swift and she hasn’t regretted it for a minute, and it was the perfect excuse for to have to buy a new fleet of shoes.
