The idea that people once thought the world is flat is bollox, it's never been a widely-held belief.
Erastothenes calculated the circumference of the earth in 200 BC (without leaving Egypt ), so anyone educated has known the world is round since ancient times.

But bizarrely, in the age of YouTube and conspiracy theories, there are a growing number of people who genuinely believe that the world is flat and that the stars, sun, moon, ISS, space, NASA are all fake.

Because masons.

It's quite scary!

Boats and Erastothenes don't help either:

I doubt it is more prevalent, you just have a longer information reach than you used to.

That's true - but it also means the flat-earthers also have a longer information reach and so they are more likely to reinforce each others wavering beliefs and convert people to their cause. And so it becomes more prevalent.

Which is basically what Junkyard said 😀

I believe that the best way to keep people guessing is by never being quite sure myself 😆

Great post on Diana from jhj btw, don't think he was derailing the thread. It was just missing a single 'makes you think' at the end in order to please for all your fans.

which no-one seems particularly worried about considering how the fires in Indonesia are being allowed to go on for so long and without much of an outcry...

That's one of my favourite bits of pedantry to bust out. Yes I am a riot at parties.
