You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Afternoon all,
I've had intermittent problems with a bulging disc in my lower back for about 10 years. It used to be excruciating and put me out of action for weeks at a time. Over recent years it's not troubled me as much, and when it does is normally back to normal within a few days.
It normally takes some kind of twist and lift action to trouble it and I've had two occasions within the last 10 days where it's causing me problems. It's driving me mad!
Can anyone recommend any kind of prevention exercises or some action I could take to get me back in shape quicker than just playing the waiting game?
I'd say i'm fit and healthy albeit without much core strength? Would focusing on this help? I'm just trying to understands why it happens and put my finger on any weaknesses that I may have and focus on improving them.
Thanks, James
Core strength - lots.
Also one of the biggest causes and not that well know in hip flexors being overly tight. Very very common in cyclists and those who sit all day.
Causes the glutes to become unbalanced along with straightening the lordosis thus allowing the lumbar discs to bulge.
Gluteal stretches followed by flexor stretches (pigeon pose, hip flexion) will make a real difference.
Thank you! To say I am generally very inflexible would be an understatement. Sitting in an office all day wont help either i guess.
I'll make the effort to do some regular stretching as you mention.
bookmarked for later stretch googling...
fire me an email jimbob - have a sheet I can send you.
That would be ace thank you. I can't see your e-mail in your profile though?
On a positive note, i've just located another chair in the office and claimed it as my own. It has way more lumbar support than my old one. Man it feels good!
try now
Ah there we go, let me know if it's not come through
You'll need to add 2 things 😉
I figured that bit out. Unfortunately I managed to spell it wrong! You should have something now.
Cheers
Hit it with a heavy book?

Replied bud.
Is that what they did with your "bulge" Rachel?
