Built in ovens. Is there a more tedious topic for a Monday?

The main heater element in our fan oven conked out at the weekend. The fan has also been taking bloody ages to wind up to speed and the grill has been borked for years so I'm not going to repair it.

If I order a replacement, am I right in thinking they're all a standard size and replacement is as simple as removing the old one, rewire, (with the correct isolation in place) and pop the new one into the carcass? I'm confident to do it, just want to check as this is a job I've not done before.

Ta.

Hmmmm - I could regale you with tales of my leaking rocker cover gasket! 🤣

But yes - if the correct wiring is already in place - pop one out, pop the other in.

Mine was connected via a 3 pin plug, as was the new one.

Four screws holding it into the cabinet, and it slid out.

20-30 minute job

Single oven? Then they are all the same.
Double oven, then there are 2 types. 1 is built-in, which slot into, generally, a tower unit, the other, built-under which fit below the worktop.
The 2 doubles sized ones look the same, and can be descibed as the same sizes, but built-under ones sometime come with feet, so cannot be fitted in a unit.

As with all things there are a couple of standards when it comes to oven sizing, but AFAIK they all look obviously different so if the new one looks like the old one then you should be OK (ie you're not replacing a single oven with a double oven or 60cm width with 90cm). As above ours is on a 3 pin plug rather than a dedicated hard wired socket so the hardest thing about swapping them is having somewhere to put the old one down while you unplug it (not so hard if you have assistance).

Cheers gents, just what I wanted to hear.

It's just a single, so no built in/built under complication. 👍

If you go to AO.COM they have a filter for the oven size and instructions on how to measure your oven/space. Mine was a double and the most critical dimension turned out to be the depth as there was 'something' behind the oven that meant it could not be as deep as most of the ones on offer. In other words, even if it is a single I would recommend a few mins with a tape measure

I just buy replacements from Amazon - search for the make and model and it will come up with the right part.

Hard luck Francisco. We had a £900 quid repair on ours on New Years Day. New heat exchanger, what a way to start the year.

Good job there's no pockets in shrouds.

just pop out the screws that hold it in, give it a pull and measure it to make sure. it's unlikely it won't be anything other than a standard size but still. you should then be able to see if its a plug or wired.

Definitely measure up, my ma had to replace one & it was slightly taller than the original.

Having decided on a likely model, download the installation instructions from the manufacturers website, theres invariably a detail dimension drawing so you can check nothing will foul anything lurking at the back of the housing.
99% it'll be fine though.

Not all singles are exactly the same size. Measure inside of the hole and buy accordingly. I removed a kaput Miele one the other day and the Neff hide and slide that was sourced to replace it was 5mm too big for the aperture, luckily I could lower the shelf underneath it and reduce the filler.
