Need help from the STW hivemind. Looking to add a downstairs bathroom (old house and I have more daughters than bathrooms so will be essential soon). Not extending the house as will be within the existing footprint of the building.
Local council site says "A planning application for installing a kitchen or bathroom is generally not required unless it is part of a house extension."
As this isn't an extension, do I need planning permission?
No.
But you need to get building control sign off to ensure it matches current regs.
Cool, thank you. Do I need to do this before or after the work is completed? I've not had much joy on the council's website!
This is my council's website.
Hoping yours has the same somewhere, but steps should be similar...
Have look here https://www.planningportal.co.uk/info/200128/building_control
You can also se an independent inspector rather than your local council.
You could trying calling them, they are generally very helpful.
