My current garage is on its last legs. 3mx5m 40year old pre-fab. It leaks at the base and some joins. The asbestos roof is also now letting in the of bit water.
On the plus side my concrete base is in pretty good nick
Thinking of having a go at taking it down and building my own brick built one with an apex roof. I'm pretty handy and not afraid to give it a go.
Has anyone had a go themselves?
If you were building your own what would you add? Ground anchor etc.
Any top storage ideas?
Looking for pictures if you have any to give me some inspiration.
Cheers in advance.
Pay Bobby D to build you one from concrete block, render it, paint it, and insulate. It'll be a million times better than any wood equivalent, and way more secure.

for security? Best to brick the door up 😉
Plan is to build my own concrete block one. With the back up plan of paying a mn to sort it. (Bobby D would be my first call)
I built my own. Glad I did. Took a bit longer than getting someone in but went pretty smoothly and DIY allowed me to use recycled and reclaimed materials. I went with block built, internally insulated and boarded, double glazed windows and pedestrian door, metal roof (insulated) and external wood cladding. I was originally going to render it but really couldn't be bothered as I just wanted to start using it and cladding was quick and cheap. Quick was important as two of the walls are on neighbouring property.
I learnt on the job. Nothing too tricky if you can take your time. Needed an extra pair of hands for some of the heavy lifting
My storage has developed as I've been using it. Funnily enough the least useful storage has been the stuff I put in as I was building when I thought I knew what I wanted rather than actually knew.
Mine is mostly a workshop so decent lighting and power was important. All can be switched off from a master switches by the door so when I leave I know everything is off.

That's exactly what I did. I don't need a 'garage' so I built it as a garage complete with the lintel but blocked up the door hole. Would be easy to knock the blocks out and fit a garage door if my needs change or the next owner wants to.
I would have a roller shutter or barn doors.
Plenty of power, insulate the roof and doors.
Smooth floor so you can put down tiles.
Strong beam in the centre for a punch bag etc.
Will your concrete base be strong enough to support concrete block walls?

Wish you'd done a thread on it. Brick-work looks good.

Narnia. EDIT Too slow!
@footflaps is that Cambridge station behind you?
The sidings, we're just North of the station.
Thats stunning, given me some food for thought.
Cheers
