Post pandemic shortages, silly builder costs etc all seemed a real thing a couple of years ago. We had explored new bathroom costs and were shocked.

Where are we now with all this? Has it calmed down - even come down in cost at all?

(looking at new house in need of renovation plus has a building plot...)

They have come down a little but still not back to where they were. That horse has bolted.

There are construction cost indices on the web that can help you track this but they haven't gone back down. Forecasts are but really available

My brother has a small construction company and he often tells me that prices are still high and supplies are not as easy to get hold of as they were pre-covid

We've got the compound effect of COVID, global supply chain disruption hangover and Brexit. If you look on the websites you'll be able to find the evidence of Brexit as these indices are not as high in EU zone.

Not surprisingly the EU stats sites don't have much UK data after 2019

Hi matt_outandabout

All as ElShalimo says really, costs have stabilised but not come down too much. There are the odd supply chain issues but nothing like the pandemic period or anything thats held anything up recently. The main issue at the moment is  timing and availibility, all decent contractors are still very busy and getting commitment to price projects can still be challenging. finding the right contractor and then booking them in is critical but you may have to wait for the right builders/ trades etc.

If you want to PM me i can maybe help/advise better as not too far from you?

I still have the canoe and still enjoying it!

cheers

Neil

Glad to hear the canoe is still out there lots. The other one is with our neighbour - and I think our shiny new one is the least used!

I'll visit the house tonight. If we think it's a goer, I'll get in touch....
