As above - going to be build a panelled gate with 6" wide planks. What wood is good?

Western red cedar, larch or oak are all good. It may be a case of what you can get locally though.

I'd just go down the local woodyard and see what they have in stock & would recommend.

Mme Moonteresse and I made this from some offcuts of old growth Oregon Pine. She's in Portland so it's easier to come by.

Nice.

There's fencing twixt us and the neighbours and, given it's 40 y/o elm panelling (stained black, natch), I'd quite like to get6 close to matching it. Sort of doesn't really justify decent wood..!

Tanalised 6 x 1 palnking, or decking boards, 3 planks across, and 2 diagonals, scrwed to the fronting planks , eg its a ledged and braced gate.

Dont forget decent strap hinges and also the posts if ground fixed or secured to brickwork.
