Have the chance of a long weekend in Seville with the better half but have no idea on accommodation. Any STW knowledge of good budget to mid range hotels in a good location within the City. Any recommendations of what sights are a must would also be gratefully appreciated. Cheers in advance.

It's a fantastic and beautiful city and a great size if you don't have long there. We stayed in a mid-range pension/hotel I think, around 60 Euros a night for the room - short walk from the centre. Soz but I can't remember where it was or what it was called - lots to choose from though. I'd visit the Alcazar definitely (and look out for the lovely old 'bano' in the garden), and go inside the huge cathedral and up the famous tower too - very impressive architecture inside and out, and great views from the top. There will be a queue but it moves quickly (or did when we were there). Plaza Espana is also worth walking to. We went to an authentic flamenco night in a dingy bar - that was pretty cool even though I'm not into that sort of stuff. Find a real one though, not the big touristy shows. Lots of great bars and restaurants. There's a big new building too which was being built when we were there - an impressive white modernist thing - a shopping centre I think, fairly central. I reckon it will be finished and look amazing by now. We were there a few years ago. Have fun!

We stayed in Hotel Zaida 3 or 4 yrs ago. It was really pretty and in a decent area, quite cheap and lots of places to eat nearby (so we were room only).
The cathedral is stunning, Plaza Espana fab, lots of lovely squares to drink in, there are some great parks to chill out in etc. etc.

I stayed here about eight years ago. Was very happy with it. It's mid-sized, efficient, businessy-but-not-bland, with a cocktail bar on the roof. The breakfasts were expensive but there are lots of cheap places nearby for authentic Spanish pastry and coffee.

Seville is a really lovely city - but flipping hot in summer.

Last year we got a cheap deal through Expedia or Airbnb at Hotel Dona Maria. Edit - Booking.com I think. We thought it was excellent.

It's right where you want to be, next to the big Cathedral & Giralda, and you can climb to the top of the big pointy thing and look down at the people sitting at the rooftop pool and bar of the hotel. We didn't bother eating there as there are loads of excellent places around.

Be aware though that in high summer not only is it bleedin hot, but Seville is totally a tourist city. You won't see a soul who isn't either a tourist or who works in the tourism business. And everything shuts at 11pm. Except maybe 2 small bars and a little music place way in the back streets that's just for waiters etc. after they finish work.

Drink at Maquila (craft ales made in the bar) and phenomenal tapas. Brilliant city and less touristy than Malage. It is kin hot. Yesterday we went to Ajece, known by the Spanish as ' the frying pan', lovely friendly place but the heat was surreal. Stay central. There,s loads of Roman relics here, check out The underground museum at Plaza Encarnation (free for Brits). I've visited a lot of cities and am struggling to think of one that comes close. Rinconcillio was raved about by Rick Stein, good tapas and wine, dates from 1670. We've walked into impromptu flamenco jams and there is a significant bullring here. A good night out costs us the best part of very little. I aim to be back here a lot. Tourists seem to be all around the cathedral but Macarena is more locals and cheap. No evidence of petty criminals like in Barcelona or Lisbon. You will have fun.

A lovely flat in a former C16th theatre cost me less than £300 for the week. Check AirBnB.
