I'm kooking at getting my wife a budget tablet as a present. Ipads, Galaxy Tabs etc are out of my price range and I've left it too late to go online and order a Nexus 7 so I was wondering if anyone has any experience of CNm tablets (presumably also known by loads of other names).

http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/5088663/Trail/searchtext%3ETABLET.htm

It would be used for basic browsing, facebook etc all off the home wifi.

Any other similar suggestions would be handy as long as I can get one before Sunday!!!

Wait for a Nexus 7 - they're the first cheaper tablet I've heard any good reports about and that the owners haven't wanted to return straight away. I played with one the other day - it's good.

Not got any experience of that but you can get a Galaxy Tab 2 GT-P3110 7.0 for £200 from PC World/Currys and then get £30 cashback.

Can you not just tell her you have ordered a Nexus though? - if it was me I would be happy to wait but women are strange creatures - maybe get her a token present as well so she has something "on the day"

Is the nexus7 available much cheaper than £199 on-line?

If not, get down to a shop and buy her one. If they're only a few £££s cheaper on-line, suck it up and still go to the shop and buy one.

Does such a thing as a Nexus 10 exist? I'd need a bigger screen to squint at.

Screen size is another issue. I'm planning on getting a nexus 7 for myself as I'd be happy with 7 inches (go on...) but I think she may want more (sigh)

There is a Currys down the road and they seem to stock the 16gb Nexus but I was aiming for a £150 (ish) spend

Have a look in HMV as you can try out the tablets there. You'll learn a lot very quickly.

"Wait for a Nexus 7"

+1, great looking bit of kit, was trying to convince my better half to get one over a kindle (it only double the price). I'd suggest a better present is one that works well, rather than a compromising cause you left it so late...

Order it from curries, as it doubtful they'll have it in stock, though you could ring and ask...

EDIT: That Galaxy looks a great price.

Asda own brand ibuprofen work as well as the branded ones and are only 25p for 16.

But do they have a USB port?

You can stick a USB plug in the corner of the box, that works.

Anything here that catches your eye?

http://www.carphonewarehouse.com/special-offers/tablet-clearance

the archos 101 for £150 looks like a reasonable price for a 10" tablet

Another Nexus 7 recommendation here.

iPads are too big and heavy to cart around; the N7 is like using a paperback book.

Reconditioned or used iPad 1? Approx £200

(recon ipad 2 is only £249 from the apple store)

That's where I'd put my money.

The quidco + galaxy tab deal above is tempting. I may get one for myself!

The Nexus 7 is a really good bit of kit - doesn't feel 'budget' at all, it's quick, the screen is excellent and the small size is a bonus - haven't touched the iPad since I bought this. Only disadvantages are the lack of SD card and 3G, both of which I think I can probably work around.

Google Play delivered mine in 2 days (ordered on a Friday, received on Monday).

If you want to buy a Nexus 7 then Currys have them. You can reserve for pickup.

They aren't in stock at Currys, you can add to your basket but when I convert to store pick up they show out of stock at all of my local stores and I'm up the road from the massive one at Junction 9 of the M6.
