Any opinions on which of the following budget tablets is best or any other suggestions at similar price point? All Quad Core 2Ghz, 32gb, 2GB RAM:

Fire HD 8 (2020)

Samsung Galaxy Tab A8 (2019)

Lenovo Tab M8 (2nd Gen)

I've no idea whether a Qualcomm SDM429 Processor chip in the Samsung is better than the MediaTek MT8168 Processor in the Fire HD or how the MTK A22TAB Processor in the M8 compares?

Where would you put your money?

Thanks

Just seeing those stupid kindle preview things so can't see prices, but for my money the best bang for buck for kids is a used iPad Mini. At the low end, £80 will get you a Mini 2 64 Gb, but I would push up to about £175 for a Mini 4 128 Gb.

I've had the earlier Fire HD8 (2016/7?) since it came out. It just works, does everything I need a tablet to do, but noticeably slower than mrsmidlife's current model ipad. By that I mean the switching between apps and modes etc, half a second here and there, nothing heinous. Once you're into your app, all quite snappy enough. We retired an ipad mini 2 when the operating system stopped being updated, and apps we needed like Skype won't run anymore, and no way to roll back to a version that does, so if you go down the old ipad route, check you're able to use all you want to.

Whend the next amazon sale?
At Black Friday prices they are a no brainer but they seem to be cheap quite often

We got our two 8 & 10, 10" Dragon Touch tablets off Amazon at the start of lockdown last year, just under £100 and still going strong with at least 2 hours of Minecraft pretty much every day.

We’ve got a couple of the £100 Lenovo’s for our kids. They are decent enough with a good screen but are a bit slow to react. Also got them a referb iPad for a similar cost and that was much nicer to use but was too old for the very latest software. Not a problem really but worth considering

For Android you can pick up Lenovo m10 for around £80-110 if you look around. Same but with larger nicer screen. Perfectly good for things kids will want to do.

Both Lenovo and Samsung are good and serviced with updates. Loads of random model variations on both. Try to optimise for one with most RAM when looking around. Just a 1gb difference is noticeable in every day use.

Def don’t buy an iPad Air 2. It will be out of support by Apple and you won’t be able to download latest Apps / versions of iOS onto it.

Fire is great if you only want it for Amazon Prime kids. Frustrating for all other things.
