You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
After borrowing one from work and kides enjoying it, we're thinking about getting a cheap projector to watch films on over Xmas. Particularly we're away for a few days with lots of kids and no tv so it could be a godsend if the weather is bad!
I dont want to spend a lot as we don't usually watch much TV or film (lack of time!)

Just wondering what people's thoughts are?

These come well regarded and true 1080, for around £150

Sorry about the bloody tags!
Cheap ones will work well in a dark room. Mine was £400.
we purchased and Elephas HD 330 - https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B074TC6DZ6/ref=sspa_dk_detail_0?psc=
earlier in year - It's worth checking youtube for reviews -
The 1280x800 native res plays dvds and Playstation games well in a room with decent blinds.
(also worth buying a cheap 'roller blind' projection screen)
I send mine straight onto a painted wall, 4m screen , and it’s great!
My mate ran a cheap SD projector for a while.
Think it was DVD or 720p type resolution.
It was OK but the bulb was dim so it was useless unless you black the room out.
The bulbs dont that many hours of life either considering the costs of new bulbs.
Then you need a screen and you have to put the projector at an angle that suits it so there's position and mounting questions.
So it's a bit of a false economy unless you really need a 10 foot wide screen.
OK for PowerPoint presentations but not so much for home theater.
If you need something portable then it's really the only option. Don't get too hung up about lumens if you can black the room out, contrast ratio is more important. Once upon a time we were doing shows with 330 lumen projectors! Lamps do dim over time, they'll probably be at half brightness by the time they have reached their estimated lifespan. If you go down the second hand route check lamp availability, we use Just Lamps who seem as good on price as anyone. You'll also need to think about sound as the inbuilt speakers make the average tv sound good!
Mine is a used Sony I bought for £150. It’s SD but responds well to a good HD signal. Bright enough in a middle room. I use an electric beamax screen which is fantastic. The family are moaning about an upgrade to 4K but my eyesight is so poor I don’t see the lcd chicenwire at the best of times.
If you get one, fit it permanently and use a good screen would be my advice. Signal quality is more important than native resolution
and in-car F1 life size is great 😀
