No doubt been covered a million times previously.......but are there any recommendations for sub £100 action camera's? I'm wanting one to clip to the exterior of a car Harry's Garage style.

Amazon reviews 1* section aren't great for the ones I've looked at and I don't want to be buying Chinese landfill tat but I'm not really wanting to increase the budget to DJI / Gopro as I don't expect to get much use.

Tia for any recommendations.

The Akaso Brave line seem well regarded. We bought one for our middle lad and he seems pleased with it. Plenty of accessories with it, and seems well put together (and image quality is decent)

2nd hand.

Anything from a Hero4 onwards has the image quality pretty much sorted.

Anything from a Hero8 onwards has the stability well sorted.

They've messed around with screens, mounts, case compatibility etc so just pick the one that does what you want.

99% of the problem is the mount though. Most GoPro accessories involve bolting the camera to the end of a plastic arm. Which is like trying to take a good photo at arms length, it's not good.  Get a decent mount like a Hague SM2, and strip it down so a 1/4" GoPro adapter bolts directly where the ball mount was. Then it'll be rock solid (at least as solid as whatever you suction it onto).

More or less agree with TINAS above. I use both a Hero4Black and a Hero11Mini when I am filming jumping (two different setups, one with 1080p/60fps and 4k/60fps for competition and the other for stills and 4k/60fps for tandems) and the only things that are really different between the two are stabilisation (GP11 is buttery smooth, 4Black is quite jittery) and colour depth (4Black is what I would call more natural, 11Mini is richer). 8s, 9s and 10s are all decent choices second hand though as they have Hypersmooth and decent resolutions.

Other than that, DJi Osmo are decent and Sony do one that is pretty good for 1080p and 4k. Not many of those on the second hand market though.

The GoPro suction mount is pretty solid but, as said above, as soon as you tack arms and stuff to the side, _any_ vibration will shake the picture. I used to film country road MC journeys with the 4Black and it got quite blurry. Have not tried it with the 11 yet, but I think it would be much better.

Def second hand. Loads of people on eBay with 2nd hand go pros, mounts, spare batteries etc. £100 will buy you a full setup, and avoid the cheap Chinese crap

Hero 7 black has hypersmooth stabilisation. Can be had for less than £100 on eBay. CEX has them for around £140.

I've had a few of these in the past and they work fine. Image quality is decent. Downsides: mounting gear supplied is a bit clunky, recording light is tiny and the usb charger has a proprietary connector. Otherwise didn't have an issue using them on the bike.

Def secondhand GoPro, as said 4 and upwards, but I've also had an Apecam which was dirt cheap and perfectly fine in good light.

A fairly unanimous STW decision! 2nd hand it is!

Sod the car. We want BertCam

I'm going on a roadtrip with Bert - don't worry there will be plenty of footage of him!
