If you were going to a race weekend at Silverstone and were looking to stay in a nearby town would you choose Buckingham or Brackley. Requirements would be a reasonable chain hotel (Premier Inn style) and some decent pubs for beers and food (possible live music and a later closing time would be great but realise that might be pushing it).

Not lived in the area for some time, over 12years but Buckingham has probably got more options for pubs, food and hotels from memory.

Deddington our little village, great pubs and restaurants and a hotel.
In fact it has a pie pub, Indian, two Chinese restaurants and three great boozers.
Much nicer than both of your options but I’m biased. 15-20 mins further than Brackley.

There is a brand new Premier Inn opening at the end of Feb which is a 10 min walk into the town. Buckingham is actually a university town so there are little pockets of nightlife and a few decent restaurants.

Buckingham.

If England needed an enema, Brackley is where they'd stick the hose.

Deddington is too far but thanks for the suggestion.

I thought that was Basingstoke 😀.

Buckingham sounds better so far.

There speaks a man who has never been to Millom.

As a slightly more detailed reply.

I would suggest stay at the shiny new Premier Inn. Walk the 0.8 of a mile down to the New Inn which has live music on a Saturday night (It does get rammed in there though). You are now in the town centre. Lots of restaurants to choose from. The best Town centre bars are, Binn Smokehouse if you want to eat your body weight in BBQ (They have the best blue cheese sauce EVER!!). The Woolpack for a cosy bar/riverside garden. The King's Head for a Gin Bar. The token Green King offering is the White Hart which also has rooms if you want somewhere cheap to stay in the town centre. A new gastro (I saw you coming) craft pub should also be open by then. I think they want to do live music as well. PM me nearer the time if you need any more info.

Towcester

BTW, it sounds like Buckingham has moved on since when I lived there ( in the drug invested village of Gawcott)...
The was very, very dead.
