Does anyone have one running without the need of tv aerial?
Just had BT TV installed only to know it needs aerial which my new house doesn't have, now i believe I have to shell out to have some aerial fitted by some specialist 🙁
Some of the broadband channels are running but picture freeze after couple of minutes to half an hour or so and giving me this IPC codes. I've called customer service and told me It wont be fixed unless I have aerial fitted.
Should have stayed with SKY!!! Ahhhhhhhhhhh!
It's basically a freeview box with a few additional channels/functions delivered over the internet so yes you will need an aerial.
It's also a crap piece of hardware that occasionally freezes completely often loses the internet channels and doesn't always register recordings setup on the accompanying you view app.
I've got a std you view box, not the BT branded version but I don't think there's any difference. I echo MW's comments above about crap hardware but now you've got one I guess there's no point dwelling on it.
In terms of the aerial problem, couldn't you just buy one of those mobile ones you stick in your window? I'd imagine it might be cheaper than getting a man out to fit one...
i have a BT vision box that is now about three years old. It freezes all of the time.
Just out of interest, has anyone got experience of what happens when you cancel your BT vision contract. Will the box still work? I only have freeview channels so nothing fancy. I just want to be able record stuff.
Have a new BT Youview box at home which is basically a Humax and works very well. You will definitely need an aerial, no way around that.
Does you house have no co-ax aerial wiring at all??? If it's just a matter of replacing an existing aerial in you loft you could do it yourself, although you would probably be best finding a good local aerial specialist as they will know what works well with your local transmitter, and should fit you something decent.

No and good riddance to the useless thing, lost all of our recorded programmes though so watch out for that

Are you sure - wired but no aerial? If so get on ebay/toolstation and get one , get it connected to where your coax links (in the loft - 10 or 15quid?) cost/hassle is often getting it down to the lounge after all

What you mean? Install the aerial inside the loft? I don't have a ladder 2 storey high if you mean fitting it outside.

Can do. It's not as good as on the roof but if your in a reasonably good reception area you should have no problems.
I fitted my own aerial in the loft, did try it outside but as its friggin massive it looked ridiculous so put it in the loft instead.
Mine connects to a splitter up there and feeds the main TV and daughters TV.
Signal wise I'm getting the same signal strength on my You View box as my dad does on his with a Chimney mounted aerial both receives signals from the same transmitter(Holme Moss)
Regards the You view , I get the occasional freeze so have to unplug the box for a mo to let it reset, but had similar escapades with Sky, its not quite as user friendly as the Sky boxes but there again there are some things it could do that the Sky boxes cannot.
Thanks guys, i didn't know i can fit it inside the loft.. Will be getting this and see how it goes. Cheaper than the £150quoted from some aerial company i called yesterday.

My BT Youview was ace to start with, slowly got worse over the last few month and started freezing, to be honest I think it's the humax box and the youview software, my BT Infinity has been faultless, now got the new BT Youview box, a lot smaller, going to install in today so will let you know.
Just been offered a youview box by BT to replace my current box. I don't have an aerial connection, only satellite (connected to a freesat box).
The old box didn't need an aerial (although they say it does). Just means I can't watch live TV (which I don't), only the IPTV services. If I want to watch live, I use the freesat box.
So, the youview box requires the aerial even if just used for IPTV?
