Hi all
Having problem with bt phone, net.
in the external socket the house side consists of 4 cables orange, blue, brown and green. Only the blue and orange connected, what about other two.
main socket in house has three wires connected orange, blue and brown.
not wanting to pair up incorrectly to incoming cables.
the cables are solid colours not stripped
any help?hone and netc
google it and you will see what wire is meant to go where.
Mine only has 2 wires connected.
The external wiring is a pair. Ignore the others.
As for internal, the orange wire (pin 3 IIRC) is a ringer wire, its usage is legacy and you'd be well advised to disconnect it for modern connections carrying ADSL.
Hi Im pretty sure that BT are responsible for providing a connection all the way to the first internal junction box of your home (the master box) Ihad loads of problems with my line last year poor phone quality and horrendous internet. Even though we have our phone and net package from another supplier BT still had to come and fix it FOC they ran a complete new wire into the house.
Years ago we used to call the third wire the "anti tinkle wire" , if you dial out on an extension it stops the other phones making tinkling noises as you dial.
Working hap hazardly, like now.
Bt engineer booked for Thursday, wiring to thecfirst socket, Bt, must be thirty years old. Outside socket "Post office telecommunications".
Glad to get some internet time 🙂
