Chaperoning dear daughter with two of her mates to and from the Birmingham o2 on Friday night so Mrs ws and i are in town for a few beers also. Know Birmingham pretty well and noticed the sunset lounge last time we walked down to the o2. Will two 40 somethings be refused entry on the door or can we go listen to some bands with the local yoof?
Seen that there's 3 bands on and did a quick Spotify and they seem up our street.
It's either that or digbeth dining club which we've yet to sample.
Thoughts please 👍
If thats the one between the 02 and New Street then you will be fine, im mid 40's and had no problems. Digbeth Dining Club is also worth a couple of hours of your time, i go there quite often and really do enjoy it every time.
It’s next door to the office I used to work at. Went there a fair bit for after work drinks on a Friday. Never went downstairs to watch any bands mind you.
Always seemed pretty chilled including one night when we finished for Christmas and they let me plug my phone in to play music whilst it was quiet and we were the largest group of paying punters there.
No problem, we've been twice recently, we werent the oldest there (early 50's). Anyone can use the bar, you need to pay to get downstairs to see the music. It's small, and very hot.
Cherry Reds, 5 minutes walk away does nice food, we generally go in there before going to see a band.
As above, you’ll be fine, it’s a cracking little venue, albeit the downstairs is a sauna.
i’d also second DDC if you have time, if not there are loads of places on John Bright Street that are worth a look, The Victoria is my favourite but you’ll not go far wrong with Cherry Reds either. Or try BoneHead for proper fried chicken and great tunes.
The wings in Bonehead are very very good
I’ve played the Sunflower Lounge. It was ace 👍🏻
It it would be nice to pop along and give a live venue a bit of support. I’d say do it - they’re a welcoming bunch.
Great small venue. Friendly and no, 40+ are not turned away!
