I brought a new set of tyres for my motorbike today. Always brought Pirellis as they had a good reputation but this time i went for Goodyears. Bloody hell! What a difference. Wayyyyy more grip.... especially in the wet.

Also ended up brying some cheap Vittoria tyres (£8 each on Planet X) for my hardtail. Again, i was bloody amazed.

I've been brying the same brands of tyres for years.

Glad i decided to swop brands and bry something else. Have ended up with better performance and have saved a stack of money just by trying something else.

Anyone else brought something else that saved them money but ended up being a better product?

I've seen 'brought' in place of 'bought' before, it's quite a common mistake.

But 'bry' is a new one on me 😁

Welcome to the world!

as a car driver/cylist i've always thought goodyears were overpriced and lacking in grip. but apparently you can get 20K + out of them hmmm...

Also, I've never had what I would call a good perlli tire, they are floppy and wheespin to easy.

I think you will find they are "tires" these days.

Yeah I moved from Pirelli M+S to General Grabber on the Landcruiser. Different gravy. GG so much better.

I brought a gun to a knife fight once. That bought me a whole lot of trouble as I ended up getting shot any way. Does that count?

Edit - Sorry, it was Sean Connery in a film and not me. How does this keep happening to me?

Put Pirelli's on my old civic type-r once, briefly, couple of months later went back to the spec Bridgestone Potenza's, the difference was vast and worrying. I think it had to do with the shape of the tyre, there was more of a 'shoulder' on the bridgeys that worked on a corner, the Pirelli's ran down to a smooth edge and as such slid in corners at anything other than a stupidly low speed.

Pirellis and Potenzas. Unless the apostrophes were added to get into the spirit of the thread?

They sound like awesome tyres. Maybe I could lend them off you for a bit. Or you could borrow them to me?

@OP - specifically, what tyres did you buy?

I need new tyres for my motorbike and was going to replace like for like - which are Bridgestone Battlax BT-023.

BT023 is a great tyre.

When I first got my Ducati1098 I thought the handling was awful, it had a Pirelli on the front. Switched to a Bridgestone and it was like a totally different bike.

I had some OEM Dunlops on my (motor) bike from new and they were brilliant, when I changed the rear due to wear, to the equivalent aftermarket Dunlop (not exactly the same but could no longer get the originals) it was pretty scary. It felt like a completely different bike and I was starting to question my riding.
Fortunately, I got a tyre ending puncture about 500 miles later so got a pair of Michelin Pilot power 2CT which were epic. It's still shod in those now. Not all black round things are built equally.

I might stick to the BT023s then. No complaints with these but also never really trusted them 100% in the wet.

I've heard some good things about the Michelin Pilot Road 4 and also the Metzler RoadTec.
