If you get a decent job you can go into year 2 of a working holiday. It's also easier to get a visa out here than back in the UK. If you have the skills maybe look at the application now and see how it goes.

Failing that enjoy riding in winter 🙂

Unfortunately I'm now too old to get the second work holiday visa, or I will be by the time I need to apply. Not sure how the whole immigration thing works, got a bit of time to think what I want to do tho, and I'm looking forward to some winter riding that isn't full of mud, rain and frozen limbs! 🙂

@wheelie, sorry to hear your story but from your thumbnail sketch of yourself, your attitude and humour displayed on here and the fact you in an amazing country waiting to be explored (forget the visa issues just hang out for a while) would say to me you have a massive amount going for you and to look forward to. Move onwards and upwards.

Mike, I'm an antique restorer, and that's what I'm working as three days a week at the mo, was planning to go to immigration and ask them what my options are.

Sounds niche enough get a nice employer to sponsor you then all you need is something to restore out here. We have a 5 year old ikea table....

Any good with wood though? Uni tas is desperate for students on its furniture design course probably comes with a visa

Awesome I reckon the cooking fat will mature in about 10 years. Mean time just go nomad and work for cash. Like the a team of furniture restoration.

Seriously though if you can get cash and transport you can loose 6 months just hitting bike trails in sa vic nsw act & tas

Pete is a short-arse tarmacer from NI who is the life and soul of a forum till he has a few drinks, then he gets banned and comes back as someone else. You there Pete?

How can you be a drug addict and not lie? It's illegal, socially unacceptable to many and addicts live in denial. The man has issues and you're perhaps wise to get out, however, "I hope this hurts him more" - I hope you don't. Don't look back in anger, look forward to the rest of your life.

tHE most obvious suggestion based on your posts so far would probably get me banned but as it's so obvious the ban would be pointless. Just read back, you next move is obvious.

There. Is. A. Girl. On. Singletrack. 😯

BTW - that Hitler-as-singletrack thing is about the funniest thing I've ever seen. Glad no one is at work today, they'd think I was mental with all the cackling.

Anyways.. rather amazing the OP actually seems half-passable. AND she like Yetis - which is more important.

See how I have such a way with the laydeez 8)

(And why have been single for-ever-and-ever-and-ever. But am also probably half-passable myself 😉 However, lacking any ability whatsoever to 'woo')

Incidentally, this reminds me of a joke I made up:

'Why do owls not date when it's raining?'
'Because it's too-wet-to-woo'

...gedit! 😛

5ft 6, blonde, rides bikes. How old are you out of context?

Sound like a good catch.

It may be hard just now, but a week or month down the line you'll be in a much better place. Concentrate on enjoying all the positives at the moment, do more biking etc. With billions of people in the world another love is not far away so there's never any rush. Head up.

On the plus side, if your ever over britain way again, there will be plenty of *young , free, single men to ride with

*not exactly true apart from the ride bit

Theartistformerlyknownasstr you are someone I don't know, you don't know me, and am aware what I set myself up for by posting on this forum but thankfully most people have been kind and supportive and have understood that I'm trying to make myself feel better right now, that comment included, right now I feel very low about myself wondering how someone I thought loved me could say what they said to me. Please don't kick people when they are down.

nowt wrong with that, I pride myself on being it to be honest, but i'm also fairly unique, as those whom have met me will agree, as for my 2p worth and words of wisdom, just do what you need to do and what feels right, there are no instruction manuals so make mistakes and learn from them, keep smiling and remember to breathe....

Don't waste too much time pining about the ex. You have a Yeti, and you're in Australia. Ride the bike, meet new people, and enjoy being single while you are.

I'm sure someone better will be along as soon as you want them to, IF you want them to. People having fun are always more attractive, people riding bikes and having fun are even more attractive!

Good luck with it all.

Artist is right though - some of the, quite frankly, creepy responses to OP (amongst the genuinely well meaning ones) are worse than what he said - oafish as it was 😀

A bloke would have, quite rightly, been slaughtered. Seriously, regaling a load of strangers with your private life on a forum probably aint a wise thing - go and do some stuff, 'man up' and enjoy life 😛

You'll be sound and life is too short to expose yourself to some of the tinterweb stalkers you'll attract.

Is that some sort of joke ?

STW is very clearly a female unfriendly environment, the clue being in the almost total lack of female contributors.

I've seen this place go from a once small but regular female presence, to just a tiny handful of very brave women who only very occasionally post.

And that sort of moronic and insensitive comment by TheArtistFormerlyKnownAsSTR is exactly what is likely to keep women from contributing on here.

Something which the mods obviously don't see as a major problem as it has never appeared to have been treated as a priority, so carry on.

Give over ernie - what keeps women from posting on here is the lather that a couple of dozen sexually frustrated blokes seem to get themselves into every time one appears.

Wheelies had 6 pages of positive attention - some genuinely well meaning and some blatant letching. If she can't take one comment from me, however insensitive then maybe she shouldn't offer herself up like that.

I've posted pictures of myself (usually when drunk - hmm, methinks maybe I should stop using the internet drunk) and come in for the appropriate amount of flack when I have done - and usually taken the flack in good spirit.

I feel it's just the same as walking into a pub populated by only men, you will get some that just ignore your presence, some that will make a play for you or just be lewd, others that will be a bit arsey because your in 'man territory'

edit - opps forgot to say also there are some guys who will talk to you normally and are genuinely interested in wht you might have to say

I don't find it unfriendly - as girls we do tend to learn to ignore attention when we don't need it - and maybe court it slightly when we do as it can make you feel a bit better.

I'm sure WG can ignore the comments that aren't very pleasant.

I think sometimes male company when you are a bit down is good as you will tend to get more of the life

goes on/ pick yourself up and put it behind you comments whereas women can want to dissect every last detail of why and how it went wrong

As for bearing your all on here - i am pleasantly surprised by how many blokes do. and yes they do get a ribbing but not when its a real crisis and its good to see how much support there is for each other.

What makes me think I have any right? I have as much right to express my opinion on here as you have to start insulting me for doing so.

I'm not trying to justify anything with 'he said worse' I'm merely emphasising the fact that if you big yourself up and then post photos of yourself you are setting yourself up for a fall, as I well know. Should I have not said what I said because it was insensitive, or because it was aimed at a woman?

I know I was wrong to put it and duly apologised.

The only difference being if we were all in a pub, and STR came out with that line, I suspect there would have been a queue of WGs friends ready to flatten him. It's all very well making offensive comments from behind your keyboard, but just remember it is a real person on the end of them. In this instance, that real person happens to be a friend of mine, hence why I might appear a little narked.

I would suggest that if you can't handle your beer, STR, then stick to lemonade, if you're planning on opening your mouth in public.

Can we drag this back to the topic in hand please guys? We are in danger of returning to a well-worn dead-end topic which I'm sure has it's time and place but not here.
.
OP, you are somewhere warm and sunny with a Yeti, I'm sure those two things will help enormously in keeping you sane, go and enjoy them 😀 Sadly, I have to wait until October before I will be in Oz with a Yeti. (We've still not seen pics of yours by the way)

Ernie - I have'nt seen anything 'shocking' anywhere tbh. Adjustable seems to have a commendable attitude to life and blokes in general - are you trying to make an issue out of a molehill, by any chance? 🙂

no ernie i dont believe i said you needed to pass any toughness test

I meant in general i have spent a lot of time in the company of men - as they do tend to be the ones i ride with, and i have lots of male friends

so generally i am used to their banter/innuendo/humour and am generally unshockable - i don't feel it was a prerequisite to joining or commenting on this forum but maybe helps

Just because we are female it doesn't mean we are all fragile and easily offended 🙂

I hope wheelie has a great time in Oz and has been reassured by all the support she's received

The picture is taken in bad light with the OP in a hoodie and I think she is attractive so she must be definitely good looking IRL.

Sure she'll get over it. Not always easy when you've had a bad 'un but sometimes you just need to have a look around you, take stock of where you're at and maybe realise that you are in a pretty good place in life compared to some of the other poor sods in the world.

Set your face to the sun, march on with your life and get the most you can out of it - you aint got forever!

Anyone that does'nt want you is'nt worth wasting time over - it really is that simple you know.

I don't know I leave my thread for a few hours and it descends in to some sort of chaos! You can all calm down, I'm not offended, it's a public forum you get to say what you like, that's how it works, your opinions are you own, we don't all have to agree.

Adjustablewench, you have it spot on as far as I'm concerned!

I'm in a much better mood tonight, dinner with a friend and a ride tomorrow, got most my stuff from the idiots house, most importantly my bikes! Am now definitely in phase two of recovery, the anger/go for a big long ride phase!

Ernie - I have'nt seen anything 'shocking' anywhere tbh.

Which presumably makes adjustable's comment "i am fairly unshockable" pointless ? Is that what you're trying to say ?

Just because we are female it doesn't mean we are all fragile and easily offended

"Not all people are the same shocka"

No, not all women are the same. And not all men are the same. Some men 'are all fragile and easily offended'. I once called Woppit a "tit" and he hit the report button and I was banned for two days, I kid you not.
