You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
If you get a decent job you can go into year 2 of a working holiday. It's also easier to get a visa out here than back in the UK. If you have the skills maybe look at the application now and see how it goes.
Failing that enjoy riding in winter 🙂
Unfortunately I'm now too old to get the second work holiday visa, or I will be by the time I need to apply. Not sure how the whole immigration thing works, got a bit of time to think what I want to do tho, and I'm looking forward to some winter riding that isn't full of mud, rain and frozen limbs! 🙂
Scapegoat - was worth a go lol
just check the 2nd year working hol thing as I'm not sure how it works when you already have one. Whats your work?
@wheelie, sorry to hear your story but from your thumbnail sketch of yourself, your attitude and humour displayed on here and the fact you in an amazing country waiting to be explored (forget the visa issues just hang out for a while) would say to me you have a massive amount going for you and to look forward to. Move onwards and upwards.
Thank you jambalaya, that's very sweet of you!
Mike, I'm an antique restorer, and that's what I'm working as three days a week at the mo, was planning to go to immigration and ask them what my options are.
I'm an antique restorer
haha that would come in handy if you were to take up any of the offers posted over the last 5 pages!
Sounds niche enough get a nice employer to sponsor you then all you need is something to restore out here. We have a 5 year old ikea table....
Any good with wood though? Uni tas is desperate for students on its furniture design course probably comes with a visa
Hallz lol!
Wood is my speciality, also have 3years of cabinet making under my belt, upholstery too.
Could sponsor a chair refit once the cats grow up...
Ahh thanks, chairs no probs!
WG, did you used to work in Nettlebed??
Awesome I reckon the cooking fat will mature in about 10 years. Mean time just go nomad and work for cash. Like the a team of furniture restoration.
Seriously though if you can get cash and transport you can loose 6 months just hitting bike trails in sa vic nsw act & tas
Podium, never worked in nettlebed, not even sure where that is!!
Mike, now your talking a team restoration it is! Or bugger off and ride hmm liking option two just as much!
WG - "my speciality is wood!!! " OMG..... Best comment yet!!!!
Sounds bad as others have said, no point in being in a loveless relationship. He might have just got confused about things.
He is a very confused man that's for sure! Anyway like you say no point, time for me to get on with having some fun!!
Pete is a short-arse tarmacer from NI who is the life and soul of a forum till he has a few drinks, then he gets banned and comes back as someone else. You there Pete?
How can you be a drug addict and not lie? It's illegal, socially unacceptable to many and addicts live in denial. The man has issues and you're perhaps wise to get out, however, "I hope this hurts him more" - I hope you don't. Don't look back in anger, look forward to the rest of your life.
tHE most obvious suggestion based on your posts so far would probably get me banned but as it's so obvious the ban would be pointless. Just read back, you next move is obvious.
There. Is. A. Girl. On. Singletrack. 😯
BTW - that Hitler-as-singletrack thing is about the funniest thing I've ever seen. Glad no one is at work today, they'd think I was mental with all the cackling.
Anyways.. rather amazing the OP actually seems half-passable. AND she like Yetis - which is more important.
See how I have such a way with the laydeez 8)
(And why have been single for-ever-and-ever-and-ever. But am also probably half-passable myself 😉 However, lacking any ability whatsoever to 'woo')
Incidentally, this reminds me of a joke I made up:
'Why do owls not date when it's raining?'
'Because it's too-wet-to-woo'
...gedit! 😛
Half passable!! Cheeky!! Tho I did like the joke!
Edukator, I'm may be being very slow/tired its 20 past 12 here, and I had 2hours sleep last night, but I don't get what the last bit of your post is on about?
I'm not quite sure whether Edukator actually knows what he's on about either 😉
...anyways, I have like, totes, just updated my Singletrackdatingworld profile so that it shows my happy, possibly half-passable face. 🙂
Wheeliegood = 50 something, bald, fat bloke who once owned an Apollo full sus, living in Bradford, who is dying to come out.HTH
My vote is still with this - 'Bernard' from Bradford has certainly caught a few in his/her net. Could be the best WUM ever. 😀
😯
:turns off computer:
:runs for the hills:
Wood is my speciality, also have 3years of cabinet making under my belt, upholstery too.
Funny, very attractive, rides bikes, good with hands...
Be still, my heart! (Swoons)!
Emily Green, now there's a blast from the past.......
I can confirm that Wheelie Good has nothing to do with any of the people that may/or may not have been Emily Green.
Carry on.
I'm not antique yet, vintage maybe. 🙂
Would you stop thinking I'm a man in disguise! I am most certainly not!! 2hottie and zokes can vouch for me!
Countzero, very sweet of you, I know I'm a good catch too 😀
No eyed deer, half passable face lol!
Sandwich, the troublesome boyfriend I just got rid of was in the vintage category!
5ft 6, blonde, rides bikes. How old are you out of context?
Sound like a good catch.
It may be hard just now, but a week or month down the line you'll be in a much better place. Concentrate on enjoying all the positives at the moment, do more biking etc. With billions of people in the world another love is not far away so there's never any rush. Head up.
On the plus side, if your ever over britain way again, there will be plenty of *young , free, single men to ride with
*not exactly true apart from the ride bit
Out of context, I'm 30. Yep another lonely 30 something in the world......and thanks radoggair, I do intend to focus on the positives, going to pick up my bikes today from his place, big ride planned for tomorrow, nothing like a good ride and nature to heal the soul!
Wheelie.... bummer of a story there lassie... BTDTGTFTS it will get better ..
.. though hanging round the reprobates on here is maybe not the cleverest of ideas
anyhoo.. after 20yrs in what turned out to be a very abusive relationship (yes us boys can get abused too) I got out and was at rock bottom....
.... I'm now 18 months into an amazing and loving relationship pic says it all.
oh and IF I hadn't found that amazing lass then .......
Am I the only one that thinks (or dare say) that the OP is possibly not quite as fit as she thinks she is? Deafening silence after the photo would suggest I'm not alone, but hey!
Nowt wrong with you Wheelie, but don't get too carried away duck - and I only say this in response to you telling us how hot you are. Hmmm!
I don't think I'm that hot at all theartistformerlyknownasstr, I was just trying to cheer myself up, I'm aware I am distinctly average, but maybe one day if I'm lucky someone will think I'm the best thing in the world. 😐
Am I the only one that thinks (or dare say) that the OP is possibly not quite as fit as she thinks she is?
FFS
Jock-muttley, love the photo, it does say it all.
pic says it all
pfft. lager? if it was ale i'd say you'd struck gold. 😉
but maybe one day if I'm lucky someone will think I'm the best thing in the world.
given the state of most of the blokes on here I wouldn't worry too much about their opinion. most of them are train spotters and geeks too. 😀
and
yes, the person that is right for you will love and adore you.
Thanks tazzymtb.
Wheelie good - MemberYou will all just have to believe I'm hot!
Ah, ok - my mistake. You offer yourself up..... oh btw, I've made a far bigger spectacle of myself on here with photo's, so don't worry too much about it or take it personally!
Theartistformerlyknownasstr you are someone I don't know, you don't know me, and am aware what I set myself up for by posting on this forum but thankfully most people have been kind and supportive and have understood that I'm trying to make myself feel better right now, that comment included, right now I feel very low about myself wondering how someone I thought loved me could say what they said to me. Please don't kick people when they are down.
Edukator, I'm may be being very slow/tired its 20 past 12 here, and I had 2hours sleep last night, but I don't get what the last bit of your post is on about?
The only thing edukator thinks he knows about his own posts is how important he thinks it makes him feel
And STR, do one. Your posts are neither funny nor interesting. Find someone else's chips to piss on you ****
😯
STR, once again you prove to be a self-obsessed preening insecure ****, whose deepest relationship is with the mirror.
WheelieGood, you seem like a great person, I'm sure things will all work out for the best - sending good vibes!
Zokes you are an excellent friend!!
Chiefgrooveguru thanks.
Am now off to pick up some stuff from the house boyfriend will be there, not looking forward to this, funny how a person that made you feel so safe can instantly turn into the most scary person in the world to have to face. Got to go do it tho.
Don't worry too much if you don't fancy her, STR, you're probably not her type anyway. I hope I'm not being presumptuous here, but I've seen nothing to suggest she likes insensitive jerks.
*arrives waaaay late to the party*
*Fixes hair, smoothes eyebrows, twizzles ends of moustache, caresses beard into shape*
Well, hello there my lovely.....
Back to the real world, throw yourself into single life, get out into the world, have fun. From the little I've read of this thread you seem to be in a great part of the world to have a great time so do that, if mr right presents himself, great. If he doesn't, you've still had a great time and I'm here 😉
Edit, for when you pop round to his, take bombers, and be sure to wee in his shoes....
Wheelie good - Member
I'm aware I am distinctly average
nowt wrong with that, I pride myself on being it to be honest, but i'm also fairly unique, as those whom have met me will agree, as for my 2p worth and words of wisdom, just do what you need to do and what feels right, there are no instruction manuals so make mistakes and learn from them, keep smiling and remember to breathe....
STR.. You come come across as a deeply unpleasant person, I'm sure you don't care though, people like you tend not to bother about anyone other than themselves.
O.P genuinely sounds like you've dodged a bullet. It's tough now but go and enjoy yourself it does get better!!
OP He would of brought you down and used you so your better off away from his drug invested brain. Enjoy the Aussie sun ride your Yeti smile and get on with enjoying the rest of your stay, don't give him another thought he's a waste of space.
Wheelie - apologies for my comments last night. I was extremely drunk - doesn't make it acceptable, but I'm sorry nonetheless. You seem lovely by the way x
Just seen your comments. Pissed or not, you come across as quite a nasty person.
Wheelie - I may concede that you are'nt Bernard then. 😀
This place turned into facebook? For what it's worth wheelie? Get off here and go and live your life. Tinterweb can be a scary place and not the best place to bare your soul.
All the best!
Not overly fussed about what you think to be honest - just sorry that I may have offended Wheelie. Just about sums up the hypocrisy of this place though - if Wheelie had been a bloke she/he would have been crucified in the same situation!
Don't waste too much time pining about the ex. You have a Yeti, and you're in Australia. Ride the bike, meet new people, and enjoy being single while you are.
I'm sure someone better will be along as soon as you want them to, IF you want them to. People having fun are always more attractive, people riding bikes and having fun are even more attractive!
Good luck with it all.
sums up the hypocrisy of this place though
Agree with that; very lenient on the female folk around these parts.
Pete is a short-arse
It's not often you get to look down on someone, is it. Literally speaking, of course...
🙂
Artist is right though - some of the, quite frankly, creepy responses to OP (amongst the genuinely well meaning ones) are worse than what he said - oafish as it was 😀
A bloke would have, quite rightly, been slaughtered. Seriously, regaling a load of strangers with your private life on a forum probably aint a wise thing - go and do some stuff, 'man up' and enjoy life 😛
You'll be sound and life is too short to expose yourself to some of the tinterweb stalkers you'll attract.
Agree with that; very lenient on the female folk around these parts.
Is that some sort of joke ?
STW is very clearly a female unfriendly environment, the clue being in the almost total lack of female contributors.
I've seen this place go from a once small but regular female presence, to just a tiny handful of very brave women who only very occasionally post.
And that sort of moronic and insensitive comment by TheArtistFormerlyKnownAsSTR is exactly what is likely to keep women from contributing on here.
Something which the mods obviously don't see as a major problem as it has never appeared to have been treated as a priority, so carry on.
Give over ernie - what keeps women from posting on here is the lather that a couple of dozen sexually frustrated blokes seem to get themselves into every time one appears.
Wheelies had 6 pages of positive attention - some genuinely well meaning and some blatant letching. If she can't take one comment from me, however insensitive then maybe she shouldn't offer herself up like that.
I've posted pictures of myself (usually when drunk - hmm, methinks maybe I should stop using the internet drunk) and come in for the appropriate amount of flack when I have done - and usually taken the flack in good spirit.
Ernie +1
+1 to Artist - for what he just posted, not what he said to OP. 😀
Well bugger me, earnie +1
And STR: what makes you think you have any right making comments like you did? Or trying to justify them by saying "he said worse"?
Just grow a pair, accept you're wrong, and move on. What are you? Twelve? **** head.
I feel it's just the same as walking into a pub populated by only men, you will get some that just ignore your presence, some that will make a play for you or just be lewd, others that will be a bit arsey because your in 'man territory'
edit - opps forgot to say also there are some guys who will talk to you normally and are genuinely interested in wht you might have to say
I don't find it unfriendly - as girls we do tend to learn to ignore attention when we don't need it - and maybe court it slightly when we do as it can make you feel a bit better.
I'm sure WG can ignore the comments that aren't very pleasant.
I think sometimes male company when you are a bit down is good as you will tend to get more of the life
goes on/ pick yourself up and put it behind you comments whereas women can want to dissect every last detail of why and how it went wrong
As for bearing your all on here - i am pleasantly surprised by how many blokes do. and yes they do get a ribbing but not when its a real crisis and its good to see how much support there is for each other.
Plus the fact if you are a girl who is into mountainbiking i am sure you are well used to the company of boys and all the fun that goes with it - i think i am fairly unshockable now
pic has had 6k + views
And STR: what makes you think you have any right making comments like you did, or trying to justify them by saying "he said worse"Just grow a pair, accept you're wrong, and move on. What are you? Twelve? **** head.
What makes me think I have any right? I have as much right to express my opinion on here as you have to start insulting me for doing so.
I'm not trying to justify anything with 'he said worse' I'm merely emphasising the fact that if you big yourself up and then post photos of yourself you are setting yourself up for a fall, as I well know. Should I have not said what I said because it was insensitive, or because it was aimed at a woman?
I know I was wrong to put it and duly apologised.
The only difference being if we were all in a pub, and STR came out with that line, I suspect there would have been a queue of WGs friends ready to flatten him. It's all very well making offensive comments from behind your keyboard, but just remember it is a real person on the end of them. In this instance, that real person happens to be a friend of mine, hence why I might appear a little narked.
I would suggest that if you can't handle your beer, STR, then stick to lemonade, if you're planning on opening your mouth in public.
Plus the fact if you are a girl who is into mountainbiking i am sure you are well used to the company of boys and all the fun that goes with it - i think i am fairly unshockable now
So as a woman you need to pass a toughness test and become "unshockable" to post on here ?
It's about time I left this one alone probably, but zokes - I'd love to see these offensive comments I made cos I can't find them. Insensitive maybe, but offensive - really?
Can we drag this back to the topic in hand please guys? We are in danger of returning to a well-worn dead-end topic which I'm sure has it's time and place but not here.
.
OP, you are somewhere warm and sunny with a Yeti, I'm sure those two things will help enormously in keeping you sane, go and enjoy them 😀 Sadly, I have to wait until October before I will be in Oz with a Yeti. (We've still not seen pics of yours by the way)
Ernie - I have'nt seen anything 'shocking' anywhere tbh. Adjustable seems to have a commendable attitude to life and blokes in general - are you trying to make an issue out of a molehill, by any chance? 🙂
no ernie i dont believe i said you needed to pass any toughness test
I meant in general i have spent a lot of time in the company of men - as they do tend to be the ones i ride with, and i have lots of male friends
so generally i am used to their banter/innuendo/humour and am generally unshockable - i don't feel it was a prerequisite to joining or commenting on this forum but maybe helps
Just because we are female it doesn't mean we are all fragile and easily offended 🙂
I hope wheelie has a great time in Oz and has been reassured by all the support she's received
How about you show us a few pictures of things (some trails and other interesting things) in Aus.
The picture is taken in bad light with the OP in a hoodie and I think she is attractive so she must be definitely good looking IRL.
Sure she'll get over it. Not always easy when you've had a bad 'un but sometimes you just need to have a look around you, take stock of where you're at and maybe realise that you are in a pretty good place in life compared to some of the other poor sods in the world.
Set your face to the sun, march on with your life and get the most you can out of it - you aint got forever!
Anyone that does'nt want you is'nt worth wasting time over - it really is that simple you know.
I don't know I leave my thread for a few hours and it descends in to some sort of chaos! You can all calm down, I'm not offended, it's a public forum you get to say what you like, that's how it works, your opinions are you own, we don't all have to agree.
Adjustablewench, you have it spot on as far as I'm concerned!
I'm in a much better mood tonight, dinner with a friend and a ride tomorrow, got most my stuff from the idiots house, most importantly my bikes! Am now definitely in phase two of recovery, the anger/go for a big long ride phase!
motozulu - MemberErnie - I have'nt seen anything 'shocking' anywhere tbh.
Which presumably makes adjustable's comment "i am fairly unshockable" pointless ? Is that what you're trying to say ?
Just because we are female it doesn't mean we are all fragile and easily offended
"Not all people are the same shocka"
No, not all women are the same. And not all men are the same. Some men 'are all fragile and easily offended'. I once called Woppit a "tit" and he hit the report button and I was banned for two days, I kid you not.
brilliant news!! - enjoy your riding 😀
go for a big long ride phase!
Best bit 🙂
Have fun.
