Be honest about quite how much "here and there" is. iPlayer can eat into an allowance that would have seemed enormous in the days before streaming TV/films.

not in a virgin area,.tbh im not exactly sure how the whole allowance thing works,
i stream a lot, nieve question but does that count?you tube music during exercise,we also stream films through lovefilm, max 3 hours per week,
i upload zero.no facebook and all that social stuff

does i player eat in to allowance that much?,wife likes to watch call the midwife and i'll catch up on top gear, that's it,
sorry if if's not much help,
to put in perspective we've been with b.t 20 months and exceeded the allowance twice, once previously for downloading an entire season of the mentalist and a couple of h.d films, just tried it once and thought it was far too much effort.not sure where this months excess has come from.

Im very happy with sky in terms of pricing and reliability, and I believe they have the ability to resell BT's fibre products, so perhaps check them out?

Can you not log into your existing account and see what your monthly usage actually is. If you move to a new provider and don't have enough allowance you'll soon know how much you are using - the surcharges quickly mount up to more than a tenner.

Streaming eats allowance. Someone will be along to correct me, but I think you can estimate up to 1Gb per hour of streamed TV/film, more if it is HD. If you're into streaming - and it sounds like you are - you need a decent allowance. I used to have 50Gb per month and got close to going over it "just" from iPlayer, Netflix etc.

A few posts on Facebook and Twitter are inconsequential by comparison.

I'm with orange and they're getting a call in the morning. Gone from 5 to 7 meg down to 0.2 this week so I'll watch this thread with interest.

40gb is allowance, last months usage was 47gb,b.t charge a fiver for every 5 gb over your limit,or part thereof it seems.

I'm with Sky and have had no problems so far... Had some niggles when it was first installed but a quick chat with their engineers had it resolved.
