Completely sick of BT over the last year our broadband speed has gradually slowed to a virtual stop. Talked to BT about it (after the statutory 45 minutes on hold) which results in about five days increase in speed and the hard sell on fibre optic connection when I know the closest fibre optic connection is five miles away (we live in the Peak far enough away from Matlock and Bakewell not to see things changing soon).
While I don't expect miracles can anyone suggest a provider who can give us a line rental and broadband with a reasonably consistent speed and a contactable customer services department (sorry I said I wasn't expecting miracles).
I have investigated the radio connection that a few people in the village use but apparently we're too close in to the hillside to get a signal from the local mast,
zen
Zen are fibre optic only (unless I'm missing something). As I said there are no current plans to bring fibre optic connection to the village (or any of the other villages round here).
I have copper ADSl with zen. although when I get around it i'll be upgrading to fibre.
Sorry I saw the no at the top of the page and didn't read the rest. Do you pay the line rental to them or BT? The packages they have indicate broadband only (Sorry questions I should probably be asking them)
I rent the line off them as well. cheaper than BT from memory.
Thanks for the help

Richie, you're missing the point fella. They do normal BB and fibre. CS seems good.

If I was technically capable I wouldn't be asking the question. It was a bad case of seeing no in big writing at the top of the page and not reading the rest.
A few years ago you might have had a few choices but now there's only really BT, Sky, Talk Talk and Plusnet to choose from in most rural areas, (Smaller companies like BE, F2S, o2 having been swallowed up by the bigger providers) and sometimes not all of those options are available. A lot of them will rely on the same BT hardware. Of these I've found Sky to be the least bad to deal with.
Zen might be a consideration if you're a). Running a business and b). Really, really, realy hate all of the companies above. They're just too expensive for what you get.
I'd see what the 4G signal is like....
SamKnows will tell you what is available at your local exchange:

A friend of mine has a dish installed and satellite broadband.
Excellent speeds and not too badly priced £50 per month from memory.
If there's a few houses nearby maybe look at sharing?
