My folks are looking at moving away from BT as their supplier of Telephone & broadband, they are just paying too much for what the they need and use. And BT have increased their prices again.
They dont need fibre, as they are so close to the exchange they are getting really good speed on standard broadband, which is more than adequate.
I have just read that John Lewis Broadband is provided by Plusnet plc.
One of their friends has broadband supplied by John Lewis. Does anyone on STW use their services?
Isn't Plusnet basically just white label BT broadband? That could be a good or bad thing dependant on your opinion.
As far as the JL part is concerned they've basically just whacked a JL label on someone else's broadband product and will earn a commission for reselling it.
Yes, I switched to JL from Sky a year ago. I'd used Sky for years (only broadband and calls), had to contact JL as broadband kept dropping. It did take a while to become stable unfortunately and really it doesn't seem quite as quick as Sky although considerably cheaper.
Plusnet for years and they’ve been fine. Used JL in the past, but I don’t think it was with PN at the time. They’re customer service used to be superb. Whereas BTs customer service was the reason I left
TBH your only choice is which call centre you use, so pick the cheapest, Home Internet rarely goes wrong these days and when it does it tends to be an OpenReach level problem.
John Lewis won’t have opened a call centre, it’ll be a white label job.
Are Voda still cheap?
If you need to call plus net be prepared to be on hold for a long time😠

I moved from Plusnet to JLB at the start of the year. Same company but the JLB package is just cheap all of the time so less need to go through the cancellation or threaten to leave dance every 12 to 18 month
I have no issues
Plusnet is BT but with a UK callcentre, and a bit more no frills i.e. disaster bakup/resilience may not be quite as good. However, all 'new' BT products are also UK call centre, so that should include Infinity and BT TV
plus net support has been pretty god for me, maybe just call at start of the day is better I guess.
We moved from Plusnet [20 min to answer phone] to John Lewis [answered almost immediately], an upgrade in our opinion.
Been with JL (Plusnet) for 3 months. Been awful but the call centre lot were very good. Finally a BT engineer came and found an issue with the line about 100m away. Not super fast and occasionally v slow but okay....
Who are JLB?
John Lewis Broadband.
Like jp-t853 I moved from Plusnet to JLB and haven't noticed a difference, except not having to pay Plusnet's new 'out of town' rental surcharge.
Did have John Lewis Bband but decided it was too expensive.
Been with thephone.coop for the last few years. Cant fault it. Fast and good customer service. Uses talktalk, same as sky so you get free of BT too!
John Lewis Broadband
ha! I’m such an idiot.
I've been with Plusnet since Metronet days. Great service and excellent call centre (by phone or through online chat). I don't know though if John Lewis share those facilities.
BT do have a low user tariff for older people as my parents are on it.
I don't think its something they advertise much but its pretty cheap, the line rental is only £5.10 a month .
They have broadband with Sky, again which is £10 (non fibre).
Dont know if there are cheaper deals but it suits them.
Bt Basic is the name of it and there are restrictions see the bumpf in the link.

That seems to be aimed at people on benefits rather than "older people" per se.

Maybe its at there discretion as my olds are definitely on the same tariff/cost but arent on benefits other than state pensions.
