Moving to new build in a couple of weeks, Virgin Media have said they expect the cable to be connected end of next week, however am not totally confident they'll be on time

Do I...

a) Take up offer of getting connected with Virgin Media now with broadband through the phoneline (will only be 2-3MB speed) as an interim measure until I can be transferred across to cable (at which point I'd ditch the phone line, no need for it). £25.99 per month with 40GB limit (until cable service kicks in at £20 per month).

b) Wait for cable to be ready and sign up on £20 per month for 10MB line. Likelihood having to do without internet over Christmas...

c) Do something else

Has anyone had Virgin Media provide a phoneline broadband service until being switched to cable when ready? Anything to be aware of?

Ta

depends how much you use web at home but maybe a PAYG broadband dongle for a month until cable is connected?

I've not had any problems with Virgin service personally but with current weather I can guess delays will occur.

won't you have to commit to a 1 year contract for the BT phoneline?

+1 for dongle. Of course, that depends on being able to get a decent mobile signal...

Yeap I'd go PAYG with a dongle really and try and restrain my internet usage while on that. Also if you have a mobile phone with data allowance check if you can increase that - three do a few decent deals - and tether it to your computer for internet in the interim.

Is it easy to switch between BB types while with Virgin? I have virgin but always been on their 10-20Mb cable service.

Dongle a good idea, have a 3GB data allowance on my mobile contract so could always tether and use sparingly.

Virgin chap has arranged the phoneline broadband deal only to tie me over until the cable is ready so don't think I'm tied into 1 year contract (new build developers have done their bit, but for some reason the Virgin media guys are still yet to do it - have had "it should be the end of next week" for 3-4 weeks now hence my waning confidence. Have been with Virgin Media in a shared flat for years though and have had no problems).

Will investigate PAYG dongles I think...
