I'm off on hols to France next week and crossing the channel with Brittany Ferries. Is the Duty free on board much of a saving over a supermarket? Thinking about a bottle of gin or a good Speyside Malt. Anyone been recently?

Yes. Cheaper in Morrison's. Only worth picking up some wine in French supermarket

Is duty free even a thing any more inside the EU?

They do have an interesting range of Malts - no cheaper than the usual suspects but there's often a tasting at some point during the crossing 🙂

No such thing as Duty Free.

You must live in 1979 and eat lucky stars for breakfast.

Go to supermarket in France, cheaper for range of good malts as well as wine and beer.

as bikebouy says, no it's not.

They do have an interesting range of Malts

and, like designer clothing outlets, they get lines made specifically for them which are not directly comparable to other retailers (and usually of lower quality despite a similar theoretical rrp). Lots well known labels (eg. Bowmore) with vague non-age-specific labelling.

For spirits, the regular supermarket promotions are invariably a better price than "duty free".
