Anyone got one? Look like an ideal winter work thing that doesn't cost Buffalo money- new ones are 40 quid also any idea who makes them?
Snugpak used to do their pile shirt not sure about now.
What I do know is the outer shell is horrible compared to the buffalo.pertex On my active shirt.
Shame as you say the price is right but its just alot more restrictive.
Cheers Trailrat
I’ve got one, it’s OK, a bit like a windshirt with a very light fleece inside, it’s comfortable enough, pretty wind proof and will go over a close-fitting base layer or mid-layer. Fine for cool, windy weather and they pack reasonably small. My Buffalo Special 6, on the other hand is the mutt’s!
But then, it’s about £130 dearer! For the money, so long as you know what you’re getting, they’re fine for dossing around in.
I might just get a buffalo and ignore the price
I can vouch for the Buffalo Special 6, had one since '96 I think, veeery warm when new, about 20 odd years of washing will diminish the interior fleece a smidge though.
Great for commuting on the bike in winter: if its dry and cold, youre warm, sometimes to the point of needing all the vents open.
If its wet and your soaked through, youre still warm, wet though. But good news is they dont take much radiator time before theyre dry again.
I tried the Montane alternative, and whilst many people report good results, i had to send mine back, it had a weird fit, either baggy arms and tight on t he chest, or vice versa.
Id go Buffalo every time.

Do it, you'll not regret it in the slightest and end up wearing it constantly. I wear mine pretty much for 3/4 of the year, just limiting to what i wear underneath, from bare skin to t shirt to sweat shirt.
I've got the cycling one and its bloody hideous. Red propile lining, purple sleeves and hood, with a yellow main body. Totally love it though.
Biggest problem with the Snugpak over the Buffalo is that the pocket on the Snug is over the pile, with just a layer of pertex on the outside so it’s not as warm for your hands when it’s freezing cold and they are jammed in there to keep warm.
Have several army copies - used by my sons for winter activities.
Decent kit for £40.
But they still borrow my Buffalo when the weather is well grim.
I have a Montane Hydrogen which is a thinner/lighter pile and Pertex and is my 80% of the time jacket, I also have a Montane Extreme for when it's really grotty/cold.
I'm a big Montane fan and the hood's are included whereas Buffalo are extra.
Cheers all
What size you after? I have a Special 6 for sale, I think it's a 44 (I should've ordered a 42).
Can you still get those! I remember using one in a storm on the Isle of Arran circa November 1994. Absolutely roasting and trying to walk sideways to get the wind to blow directly in to the fully open side vents 🙂
there's been lots of threads on Buffalo stuff, universally applauded and a get what you pay for!! I was massively shocked at price when i looked again (i've got the SP6 and the cycling one) never realised i paid quite that much.
just to re-affirm, my SP6 has been all over the world and in some god aweful shiz conditions and is still trucking on. As with all buffalo kit, it works way better next to the skin and you go against the usual "layer up" philosophy..
Splash out and buy the Belay jacket.
It will last for years.
I used them in construction in Scotland
Tough and hard wearing.
In really cold weather sub zero and big windchill I layered up and wore two, the second one being a ebay second hand one.
For work I found the Belay more useful as it's a zip front could take it off when driving the truck , going in cafe, office etc.
They dry quick, breath, very windproof and the optional hood is great.
I do have a shirt but it's less used only for very cold Weather riding or hiking, but still going strong after 10 years.
The active lite is my mtb choice as its not too hot and has lots of vent options.
If your on a budget, ebay is a good option, but worn ones often have the pile lining worn if not looked after so less insulation.
