I was amazed to see bristows age though,

when the wife told me, I instantly said ‘he’s 77’

cant believe he was only 60, probably because he retired a long time ago, as he didn’t really look old.

When Alexander of Macedonia was 33, he cried salt tears because there were no more worlds to conquer …  Bristow's only 27

Well in the spirit of bad taste, I'll have a tenner on Prince Phillip.

Don’t go to bed on a row.

Are dormitories particularly dangerous for some reason?

The crafty cockney was always on the box during my childhood. There is a superb documentary called Arrows on YouTube, which followed the then young Eric on his journeys around the country. He seems to be lighting up a new cigarette in every scene, which I daresay were contributing factors in his early death. RIP champ.

And having a pint in the other hand may not have helped either.  Any darts players from that era who are still alive at 60 are doing well and beating the odds of smoking and drinking related death.

There is only one certainty in life and that is death.

My brother works for the BBC, and they have pre written obituaries for ‘famous’ people.

Maybe send them an FOI request, that should give you and indication of who’s next

The Crafty Cockney was a darts legend!  Was such a big personality in the mid to late 70’s, I loved him at the time.  Discovered that you couldn’t be outspoken and get away with in it the PC years, but still remembered fondly by anyone who played and watched darts at that time. RIP.

@FunkyDunc - As do all the major newspapers. It used to be that the main media organisations had departments keeping the Curriculum Mortae of famous people up to date in preparation for the inevitable.

Fat smoker who likes a swally dies. Hardly a shocker, really.

hmmmmm. Bristow's coments about sexual abuse in football and the victims not being 'real men' made him out to be a rather ingnorant fool. The gushy obituaries in the media today conveniently forget the last time he was making headlines in the same outlets it was for rather poor reasons.

why people feel the need to defend idiocy baffles me.

I'm really struggling to follow the logic of this.

Try Here for who's next

Kirk Douglas tops the leaderboard but he's been nominated for 16 years and has still failed to deliver!

OP forgot Dodd, Hawking, Smith and Maynard (among others) in the list of dead people he didn't actually know.

My colleague sitting next to me is likely to die a sudden death at a relatively young age if she doesn't shut up soon.

That's because when Death turns up and asks, someone else stands up and says "I'm Kirk Douglas"

I’ve had the most upsetting day today, but this made me laugh so loud that it woke my wife up. Thank you. 🙂

On a more serious note this is a wake up call to the OP’s own mortality.

When your young nobody you know or care about dies.  As you get older this changes and the grim reaper edges ever closer

Just reading about Eric Bristows legendary drinking and partying exploits. Epic benders that went on for a week at a time, all over the globe! He may have only made it to 61 but it sounds like he had an absolute ball doing so!

Who wants to live forever anyway?

To quote one of the Spinal Tap drummers: “you’re here for a good time, not a long time”

Sad to hear of his passing. His comments about abuse in football were ignorant and he  apologised . He rightly lost his job as a pundit with Sky on the back of it.  I've loved watching and playing darts since a kid and there's no doubt he was the first star of the sport. He had a talent for the game and loved rubbing other players up the wrong way but he was close friends with most away from the stage. He did so much to raise the profile of the game and Phil Taylor has acknowledged he wouldn't have made it without him.
