Hoping someone has experience with Brink detachable towbar's. I've spent hours searching the web and chatting to the local Peugeot dealership but received conflicting advice/wisdom on compatibility. We bought a 2014 Partner Tepee Outdoor which has a factory fitted Brink towbar but it didn't come with the detachable towball. We only want to connect a bike carrier, no towing. The dealer want £350+ for one on back order but they can be had for £50 on Facebook market place. They only seem to come in two designs, diagonal and vertical. Are the detachable towballs vehicle specific or universal? https://postimg.cc/4nTxNwCk https://postimg.cc/8sgqr0P4

They seem to only do two
And I doubt it's this one
So I'd guess at diagonal - the one on the right here
It's a long time ago (>15 years) but from what I can remember, the receiver on mine looked like yours and that took what looked like the diagonal one. From experience with our brink and latterly Westfalias, you're going to need a large copper mallet and a wire brush to get anything to locate and lock into that. 90% it'll pretend to lock in but then not quite let the the dial rotate fully and allow you to remove the key.

I've had this with a Westfalia one. What's the wire brush for? Is that to clean out the receiver?
yep. On the westfalias the two triangle shaped projections on the side of swan neck have to locate really snuggly into the receiver. Both the projections and the receiver can accumulate rust on them. You can try a thin smear of grease to protect them, but I’ve found even this can get in the way of them locking. ****ting with a persuader being the ritual I now employ.
I've got one for my SEAT but it will not attach, so gave up. Will take it to to a specialist sometime.
Thanks All. A local caravan company said that the detachable towballs are vehicle specific and that they cannot supply them without a towbar. The Peugeot dealer can supply one for my Partner without the towbar but could not confirm if they are vehicle specific. I can't believe that they make a towball whether diagonal or horizontal for every vehicle. I'll clean the receiver as best as I can and try a diagonal one sourced off eBay/Facebook.
I looked into this for westfalia as I had a similar issue. All the online advice was that you had to get the exact one and westfalia only sell them as part of a whole towbar kit. I just bit the bullet and bought one that looked right on eBay. It was a perfect fit. Of course they aren't making a different mount for every single model of car but no-one wants to officially admit that. There may be differences in reach and height but that won't make a difference for a bike rack (unless you have a particularly weird bumper cutout)
I know westfalia make different ones for different vehicles, their swan necks vary in penetration depth, reach and ball height.
I think the brinks vary in angle as well.
Nurse, the screens!

Do I need to prove my age to read this forum now?
