Hi all,
I'm buying a new car and obviously that needs insuring. However, I will still have my old car for another week so there will be a period where I need both cars to be insured.
At the moment, it seems like the easiest option is just to take out insurance on the new one, and then cancel it within the cooling off period and get a refund, before transferring my old policy onto the new car. Any reason why I can't do this? Any better options?
Most new cars I have had come with a weeks gap insurance. Might be worth asking.
You can also get short term or temporary insurance. Can get them online and just cover a car for a few days or weeks. Doesn't have to be with your existing insurer.
New cars have to be insured to tax them I'm sure the dealer will have something setup, the last car I bought had 12 months free insurance anyway so it wasn't an issue.
Talk to your insurer. I've had no problems transferring my policy to the new car then having temporary cover for the old for a few weeks (renewable if needed) while I sell the old one.
As above. Got one month dual cover last time.
