So for an older house is lime plaster the only option or is there a good modern option?

Getting some issues in an Edwardian house so amongst doing some other things Looking to remove some of the gypsum plaster/vinyl paint and put something more breathable in.

I believe this is what you are after. Used it a fair few times on damp renovations with backing coat, my plasterer rates it. Find a decent local plasterer, they should be able to give you the low down...

Whereabouts are you? If northern England/central Scotland then Mason's Mortar do some decent products. I'd also check out some of the Secil products such as ecocork as depending on the thickness you can apply you may be able to add a bit of insulation too.

We used Dryzone Hi-Lime Renovation Plaster. Nothing's gone wrong so far, but I've no idea whether it was the right choice really...

I used to sell this stuff - very common in Europe. Easy to use, dry bagged and no special knowledge needed.

Bookmarked too.

Late-1800s house and we're about to stay removing wallpaper and crap plaster in favour of properly plastered and painted finishes.
