Portsmouth definitely has the loudest guns, despite being the smallest.

Once they've stopped shooting at nothing, do we get the proper radio and telly back?

Ideal time for the Tories to get some shit policies released as it will be lost in this sea of guff

Worse than that, they've landed themselves a week of zero scrutiny; PMQs suspended, a suspension of campaigning for local elections in 3 weeks time, a removal of any sort of satirical show from broadcasting, no possibility of any TV interviews or questioning (other than appearances to state their grief obviously)...

The Government have got lucky yet again.

I think you'll find that all this coverage is to stop people gathering at royal locations around the country. Probably wouldnt have been so extensive if the pendemic wasn't going on.

If Farage doesn’t dress in black for a year and start self harming he isn’t a troo paytreert.

I could get him started on the second bit.

My neighbour. Aside from the fact he nearly ran me over in the Great Park a few years back in his Range Rover heading for the Polo, I quite liked him. And I’m not a Royalist by any account. I liked the mash homily too – summed him up. Probably not quite as funny as he thought he was, but well-meaning. Reminds me of my own grandfather in that respect. Oh and it’s not widely known, but he used to spend Sunday afternoons serving behind the counter at the Farm shop.

He had a great many obvious faults, who doesn't after 99 years, but having been involved with charities and youth groups that benefitted from his support over the years, it's easy to overlook the good work he did over all those years.

Still, we're divided and arguing about something while the government dodges scrutiny again.

To be fair, I'm not arguing. Just posting for the LOLs.

In any case, no one has answered the key question:

Are we getting an extra chuffing bank holiday or what?

Let me know when the sombre sobworthy songs have finished on Radio6 - I'm having to throw middle aged lunch time shapes listening to Ibiza Global FM instead and it's probably not pretty.

Hmmm what is it 127k covid deaths vs one bloke who died peacefully after a full, long privileged life.

Ahh perspective.

The only sadness I’m feeling for a ‘title’d person is for the one on here:-(

You know if you are unhappy with the BBC’s coverage you can turn over to another channel or just turn it off. If you don’t want to fund it, don’t get a tv licence. If you want to be outraged over it keep watching. Don’t worry though, there will soon undoubtedly be another reason to be outraged coming soon from another media outlet imminently. It’s what they do.

My wife's reaction to me telling her Prince Phillip had died, was 'what's for supper?' 😀 Priorities.

I missed the news almost all day yesterday as I was playing out. Radio 3 has changed its playlist today but still playing some nice music. Can't argue with a late Beethoven quartet can you?

I have no problem with a whole channel of non-stop coverage as regards the “loss to the nation”, it’s the removal of choice by the BBC, my simulcasting or suspending across all channels that seems a stretch… it really does make it feel more of a “state broadcaster” than a “public service broadcaster”.

OK, so, has anyone got even the slightest justification for showing literally the same thing on bbc1 and bbc2? It achieves nothing, it's literally just taking something away without giving anything back.

I'm not asking for anyone on here to believe it's a good idea, just hoping someone can find me at least some sort of devil's advocate opinion that isn't "it's completely ****ed mate"

It was a bit odd. Are there people who can get BBC1 but not BBC2 and vice versa? Cancelling BBC4 was equally weird. Just a page saying there is some news so we are suspending broadcast, no information.

Perhaps they though reruns of TOTP would distract us from our mourning.

It's not all bad, I'm getting to (finally!) have a listen to the 90s/00s skate punk I downloaded ages ago. The band is Sick Shift if anyone's interested and we've got The Terminator to watch later on too 😎

Or they can go over to youtbue to watch something else. Thousands of stuff to watch on youtbue so why just rely on BBC I don't know.

Funeral is next Saturday so guess that means no day off. Apparently we've(*) got a week of national mourning, so guess the meeja will stay away from anything entertaining or contentious during that time. That probably means The One Show is back on as normal though 😉

* that's "we" in the national collective sense, personally I got through my mourning remarkably quickly.

got a week of national mourning

Which Boris has sanctioned. So what does this mean exactly, do I have to wear black Dad clothes at Center Parcs next week?

Sorry, who died?

DMX.

And Jane McDonalds husband. She's the not very successful Cruise ship singer btw.

It wouldn't be a proper Boris public statement if anyone knew what it meant or if he'd thought about it before he said it.

I'm no royalist, but for anyone moaning about how much the royal family cost, which is apparently £69 million per year, worth remembering that the Tories recently wasted £37 billion on a completely incompetent track and trace setup. By my calculations that would pay for the royal family for 536 years.

If you want to add your complaint about the level of coverage by the BBC join the queue!(Guardian)

I can understand one channel dedicating to it but all of them is a step too far.

Sorry, who died?

120,000+ of our friends and neighbours, relatives and parents.

But BoJo and the BBC* are much more sorry that one 99 year old racist has finally stopped spending everyone else’s money.

*To be fair to the BBC they’re damned if they, damned if they don’t.

when it comes down to it the UK state isn’t much different from North Korea.

Really?

For all its faults I really would rather to continue to live in the UK than live in North Korea.

As a firm republican (vive la France !) I'm sorry to see the most francophile of the royals go. He was representative of his generation with all his collonial monarchistic bollox but as an early ecologist, DoE bod and ambasador for the UK he did well.

Reporting on him on this side of the channel was/is a mix of deliciously naughty and respectful, perhaps because the respect was mutual.

I'm not aware that any of Prince Phillip's alleged foibles were of the Saville nature.

Anyone thinking we're becoming North Korea really needs to have a look at that a bit more carefully. North Koreans would happily swap.

That explains all the artillery earlier. There's been an attempted coup against our dear leader and the conspirators are being executed North Korea style.

I was apprised that all the Royal Navy shops on duty round the world carry enough blanks to do a40 gun salute. Surely they are fully loaded with real bombs when at sea and not fake ones

Amazing that these shops have enough room for live ammo let alone blanks when there are tea towels and tea sets to sell.
