After breaking down at 2am and the RAC wanting me to wait FOUR hours times come to shop round.  Not the best service for £23 per month!

Who's got any recommendations!

They're all the same.  Everyone uses local contractors (even the RAC and AA if they haven't got a van available) so the service you will receive depends on where the contractor has got to come from, how busy they are and whether they've got to get someone out of bed.  May as well just go for the cheapest which  is usually Autoaid - £43 per year for all the cover you'll need and includes your spouse too (if you have one).

£23 a month?!??!?!? WTF???"

I've been in the AA for years now, maybe 20 or more and never had a complaint. The've always sent their own vans to me and twice gone well above and beyond to get me going again. The last time the patrol man did a 2 hour round trip to get us a new coil pack so we could drive 200 miles home. I was impressed.

They're also the only company that seems to know what to do with a motorbike too.

Every year the renewal goes up so we ring up and get it at introductory internet price again. I've always paid between 100-£140 a year, hence my initial comment....

Used Autoaid for many years and they were great but I thought it was getting a bit pricey at £43 per year and then having to pay for extra cover on top of that for driving in mainland Europe.

Finding that it's a better deal overall now to open a Nationwide (joint) Flexplus account and pay £15 a month to get European Breakdown cover for both of us, Phone Insurance for all family, Worlwide Travel Insurance for all family, etc.

I've used the Tesco Clubcard points I accumulate by buying fuel for the car to pay for RAC cover every year since 2006.

It's never cost me  a penny and they've been pretty prompt and efficient on the rare occasions i've had to call them.

Good value as far as I'm concerned.

£23 a month? Really? My cover if I was actually paying cash  for it is usually discounted to about £60 a year.

Start Rescue. Around £35 per year including home start.  We have used them once. My wife was in the car on her own when she noticed a loud unknown noise from the engine area. A guy arrived inside 40 minutes, diagnosed a loose heat shield somewhere vibrating. Removed it, and advised her the car was safe to drive but to get a garage to look at it later.

Never had an issue with AA, unfortunately had to use them 2 of 3 times in the last 6 months and they have been great each time. Arrived within 40 mins - I tracked progress via the app, they offered to get a part and fit it for one issue (in the past they would have towed to a local garage and left you to deal with it on Monday).

and the best benefit of the AA, you get 20% off at toby carvery 😉

Another recommendation for Start Rescue. They have the option to base their prices on your age of car so I'm paying £18.79 for nationwide cover for a 4 year old Fabia.  They're only £25 to extend that for 9 days for Europe too!

Autoaid +1

The price covers your spouse as well, in any car / age

It is more car recovery insurance, I have used them for a breakdown and it was a positive experience, more so than when I used to use AA

I had green flag, they trailered me from Teesside to Derby without question.

Really should get new cover sorted as the car is a definite banger now and I'm likely to do 25k miles this year!

RAC basic cover - never needed it for years until I had a crash. They were very good and sorted everything. I'd not go for the more expensive cover option, just need the option to call International Rescue when you need them 🙂
