Breakdown cover renewal time, just wondering which ones people reccommend? I know AA/RAC / Green flag are pretty good, but what are the cheaper companies like.
On gocompare / comparethemarket etc seems like prices range from £30 to over £100 for the same sort of cover. I know the cheaper ones contract out to local garages for the recovery or roadside repairs, so is the service you get just reliant on what the local garages are like?
I'm tempted to go for a cheapo one as the car seems pretty reliable (at the moment!)
Anyway, any recommendations?
Thanks
Gem are very good, a local garage comes out to you by the roadside and either fixes it or tows you. You pay their bill on the day, Gem send a claim form and you get a cheque in a couple of days. Easy and cheap.
i've just joined Autoaid - £39 covers me and the wife (if i was married) and any vehicle I own . Downside - you have to pay up front and claim back, though only heard good things about this.
Insurance Choice are cheap and effective, also good value for their UK recovery service, price depends on the age of the car but they work in the normal way (not the pay and claim back - I'd not heard of that before!).
Usual local garage service which worked as well as any other when I needed them.

http://www.britanniarescue.com/ here. Cheap and some really good reviews.
I get it through my bank account - £15/month from Bank of Scotland less the fiver I get in lieu of interest means the annual cost is £120.
However, this covers my AA breakdown with Home Start, worldwide travel insurance and mobile insurance so I think it's worth it.

Likewise
With Natwest, £12.99 a month gets me phone insurance (on up to 2 iPhones or lower), Breakdown cover with Green Flag, and a whole host of other things (cheaper train tickets, cheaper travel insurance etc).
I phoned Green Flag to extend my cover too, it was about £58 for the year to extend to full "Get you home from anywhere, and give you a courtesy car, even Europe" type cover, which I don't think was bad at all, as that cover is pretty expensive on its own anyway.
I've got basic AA cover for £9.
£28 via AA web site but then with £20 cash-back from Top Cash Back.

Yep, I did the same, used Topcashback for a big chunk off AA. Can't see that much would be cheaper really.
