My cover up for renewal at the end of the month. Shopping around the comparison sites though - even supply the vehicle details so they know the van is LWB - all the quotes returned give exclusions for vehicles longer than either 5.19m or 5.5m. My van is nearly 7m.
Some of the providers even have picture of a van much larger on the page and even list vans such as "mwb Transit or Sprinter or Movano" as examples of the kind of vehicle covered next the the figure quoting a length thats 0.7 shorter than those vans.
Among the list of providers not covering longer vans is QDOS - who are who I'm currently covered by and who towed my sorry ass home at 3 in the morning a few months back. So the certainly used to do it!
so.... who has a big van and who is doing your cover?
7.2m van.
Insured via advance. Took their breakdown insurance.
Advanced don't offer stand alone breakdown cover seemingly - who is the breakdown cover actually with? (and have you read the small print? - QDOS seem to have quietly dropped their size from 8m on my current policy to 5.19m and the renewal even though it accepts my vehicle during the quote.)
Greenflag - bundled with the Bank Account - winched our 3.5t 7.5m long Transit Motorhome onto the flatbead when we got a flat on the M9.
In answer to my own question I found Sterling Rescue who's only criteria is the weight (3.5t).
Interestingly they offer two policies - one with home cover, one without.... both the same price 🙂
But if you're a big van driver (or a driver of big vans)... check the policy now and when you renew because you may well be surprised by the small print.
Greenflag
Not according to their current blurb - so watch that when you renew.
[edit - thats a lie - their limit is 7m not 5.5m - I was mixing them up with someone else... you got away with it if you're over that. I didn't check greenflag... we've got history that ended with them having to write me a cheque for £1200!]
Both of ours are covered as part of the service agreement with Ford.
