I just got woken up earlier by an insanely noisy jet, after a few seconds I got out of bed expecting to see the lights of a military jet or similar but its cloudy anyway. So with it being cloudy and raining it makes it even more unusual as presumably the noise would be muted by all the cloud cover.

So I looked on flightrader24 and its a 16 seat private jet (Bombardier Global 5000) flying at cruise altitude and speed of of 45,000 feet and 590 knots, so its not low at all which still makes the noise unusual.

Took off from Reykjavik (which I expect was a refuel as this thing can get to the other side of the world with one stop) and then made a turn to fly right across the UK roughly over Glasgow, Manchester, Birmingham, and Brighton so presumably woke up quite a few people...and on to Paris and now descending over the Alps.

Flightrader just refreshed and just worked out can search for the plane as I remembered most of its registration of GL5T (thought I'm not sure you can see anything but its current flight if it lands shortly)

I think I'm close to you spooky, I heard something loud this morning too, whatever it was certainly wasn't flying at 45,000 feet.
I assume something else was up there that wasn't being tracked.

You wouldn't have heard it, so it was probs a Mil jet  as you first thought.

^ This. The noise you heard is not from the aircrfat you saw on Flight radar.

Joint warrior is on at the moment, plenty of military fast jet action over the west of Scotland.

https://www.royalnavy.mod.uk/news-and-latest-activity/operations/united-kingdom/exercise-joint-warrior

Most of them won’t show up on FR24.

Yeh makes sense as it took too long to go over for something going that fast, first thought was it was fast jet trying to go slow.

Cyclistm I think your right we are not far from each other, I see you on Strava or something.

Facebook suggests it was the USAF refuelling a number of F15s.

There are lots of planes don’t show on FlightRadar, even civvy ones. There’s all sorts fly over where I work, and it’s surprising just how many don’t show up, while some military ones do.
There are a lot of very noisy jets go over at work, and even with a clear sky they’re impossible to see, apart from the B-52’s going to and from Fairford. Haven’t seen a B2 Spirit yet, though.

Often wondered if you get the aircraft equivalent of boy racers. Get quite a few small private planes around near us, guess the scenery attracts them. Often see them doing loops, dives and stuff.

Haven’t seen a B2 Spirit yet, though.

B2 was around here a few months ago. Quite low too. Amazing thing, like batman had arrived.

Boy racer pilots tend not to live very long.

When out on the road bike over Goodwood way in West Sussex you get to see quite a few planes including a Spitfire and Hurricane flying low and doing all sorts of manourvers, can be quite distracting as i almost rode into the back of a parked car whilst staring in to the sky!!

That and the selection of vintage, super and hyper cars around the area in summer for various shows can make a nice ride a little different

Woken up by a similarly loud jet noise. What was most unusual other than the time which was around 04:30 was the duration of the noise so I can only assume it was more than one aircraft. Then established it was at least one McDonnell Douglas KC-10A Extender flying over at 27,000 feet here.. https://www.radarbox24.com/data/flights/gold91

Jamze that could have been the view from my roof twice a day through a fair chunk of September. Glorious things and quite loud for something puporting to be "stealth" ;o)

We were cycling in the middle of no-where in France and a display team started flying ahead of us, not sure if they were practising or over a hidden village/town. Great display but it was quite worrying that the cars behind us would see cycling ahead of them, in the end we stopped on the verge to avoid the risk of being squished 🙂
