I'm currently after a 55" 4K SUHD Samsung - £1699 down from £1999 (pretty much all retailers) - 4K BD player is reduced too when bundled and every few days they seem to do a code for an extra £100 off.

Do the big retailers discount mid-range/high end stuff on Boxing day, or is it just the crap they haven't managed to shift for the rest of the year?

A bit of both I suspect, some headline deals to bring the punters in then a load of old crap they can't shift that's 'reduced'

We just bought the 49" variant of the 7000 series SUHD TV for £875 from Richer sounds after a price match so worth trying that tack if you can find a cheaper one anywhere.

I bought my 42" Sony Bravia from Currys on Boxing Day, £899 down from £1400. It was one down from the very top of the range, and it's a lovely set.
It's now nine years old.

I have my eyes on the 55" LG OLED set that they have. I'm hoping others don't want it as it's not 4k so they sell them cheaper than they currently are.

If you're not dedicated to Samsung, I'd been looking for similar products and the Panasonic 58" UHD is a lot cheaper (58DX802B) around £1300 at the minute

Definitely the Samsung, it's the best picture for UHD content

OLED is the way to go. Every pixel can light itself, amazing blacks. Only LG make them at the moment but i suspect they will start supplying the others with panels soon. Just a shame the good one is £2500 (down from £3400) in currys.

CES show is at start of Jan, prob best to wait until thats over as new models etc will be announced. Old ones may get cheaper.

Irrespective of which sort of TV is best, Boxing Day sales are a thing of the past. Sorry, but there are better deals to be had all the year round if you search the web.

OLED is the way to go.

OLED has its flaws - the blacks are undoubtedly better, but they hold on to the highlights. Also, I could be wrong, but don't OLED's suffer from screen burn?

Yep, got this in mind

Not fussed if it isn't reduced on BD, just didn't want to be caught out

Seems the Curry's sale starts today - An extra £100 off the TV I want, plus a free 4k BD player
