Hey.
We've got a great neighbour on one side of us who would like to remove a hedge plant from our border hedge so that they can make a bin store (three SODC wheelie bins FTW!).
The plant in question (orangey brown dot on diagram) is utterly unseeable from anywhere on our property, being as it is behind (beside?) our garage.
Is there anything I need to consider as regards property rights and the like before I head round and help him cut / dig it out?
Basically, I'm happy for him to have his bin store there, but don't want to get caught up in drama if some years down the line (say) something happens to our garage which necessitates removing it and he's not our neighbour anymore and so on (other drama filled scenarios available)...
Advice appreciated, thanks!
So to be clear, your neighbour wants to put his bin store on your land?
What trouble can you possible see ahead?
Dont do it, or if you do, do it formally with a Licence to Occupy and take some rent money off him each year.
Just give him permission. Once he has your permission he can't claim possession. Just tell any new neighbours the same or put up a fence when he wants to move.
take some rent money off him each year.
This, the wonderfully named 'peppercorn rent' to ensure there is never any issues over ownership. Could be £1 a year, just an amount that is paid.
Thanks all. So, offer permission in exchange for a basket of apples each year and sorted? Sweet.
and a good seeing too from his wife? a la indecent proposal, unless she's a munter of course.
What ever you decide to do, get it in writing.
