Seeing as I’m sat on my arse all day I’ve bought a 2nd hand switch, as the last game I played was mario kart on a mates Wii 15 odd years ago what should I look at first?, last platform game I played was probably super mario world on my wee bros n64 years ago.

Narrowed it down to mario kart 8, super mario odyssey, super mario bros wonder, legends of zelda - breath of the wild (never played a zelda game before)

I’d quite like a rally game so thought of WRC 10.

I’d be playing on my own, no online gaming. - choose 2 of the above or something different?.

Mario Kart 8. Small one also spends ages on Among Us.

Kids have battered through Odyssey and Wonder; does depend if you're any good at platformers though (I'm not).

Mario Kart 8 is a must.

Other stuff depending on your taste.

My lad loved the Zelda BOTW game, so give that a go if you like dungeons & dragons stuff.

Only game I play from time to time on my better half's Switch is https://www.nintendo.co.uk/Games/Nintendo-Switch-download-software/FAST-RMX-1174333.html , pretty good for anti-gravity racer.

Might be worth checking www.cdkeys.com for some Switch bargains.

Completely not what you asked for, but I've enjoyed playing Little Nightmares on my son's Switch.

Also there's a Metroid Prime reboot available for the Switch, which is pretty much my favourite Nintendo game ever.

Edit: also Hollow Knight, brilliant Metroidvania-style game. He also downloaded Feather, and Sky: Children Of the Light, which are both beautiful peaceful mellow games, and were free at the time to download.

Cheers for the recommendations, I’ll have a look at them on YouTube, seems like mario kart 8 is a must.

Your online sub gets you access to a whole load of NES and SNES games too - easy to get lost playing old Marios! (Higher level then gets N64 and Game Cube iirc)

Do I need an online sub?, does the £17.99 yearly sub mean I can play/download games for free?

We got my daughter a Switch for Christmas.

Super Mario Odyssey is a firm favourite, as is Splatoon 2.

I'm still a bit confused about the benefits of the online subscription. I really need to read up on it a bit.

I love playing the old N64 titles, but you need the fancy online membership for that. Usually some good stuff in the sales on the nintendo shop, I'm playing the Bioshocks for the first time and enjoying revisiting Tony Hawk 1 and 2.

Rallying is a little weird on the switch since it doesn't have analogue triggers meaning accelerating and braking is all or nothing.

mario kart doesn't have great longevity for single player in my opinion.

either of the zeldas - I'd go for the earlier one first, mario wonder/oddessy are all great.

If you buy a first party title 2nd hand, and sell them again once you're done, it'll cost you about £5 per game, so no reason not to buy them all really

I'm not big into RPGs, nor do I have any nostalgic attachment to the Zelda series, but Breath of the Wild is an incredibly good game because it's so perfectly done. Tears of the Kingdom is just as good. As cynical as I can be, the world is good enough to get even me caught up in it.

I really enjoyed Links Awakening. Just a remake of an old gameboy game but proper old school Zelda. Lots to do but not so big you feel like you’ll never finish it. Don’t have huge amounts of time to game anymore and sometimes feel like I’m getting nowhere in the more open world games. Wife bought my Luigi’s Mansion 3 for Xmas and playing my way through that at the moment. Pikmin series is also Nintendo at its best. Got a soft spot for any of the Lego series as well. Jurassic Park cut scenes were more enjoyable than any of the last three movies.

Mario vs Rabbids is a decent puzzle game and good in one player. The first one - Kingdom Battle - you can probably get for peanuts.

Mario odyssey I thought was brilliant.

As above 1 player Mario Kart will get boring.

There are some fantastic indie games too. Dead Cells, Hades, Hollow Knight and plenty more. Mario Odyssey, BotW, TotK, Metroid Dread and Mario Wonder are great too. Heave Ho is one of the few games to make me genuinely laugh out loud. Need four players for ultimate giggles.

WRC 10 is definitely more simulator than arcade-y.

It was/is on offer in the Nintendo store for a fiver.

I need to dedicate some time to Zelda too, from what I've played so far it's stunning.

Cheers for what to look for, looks like zelda - botw is one to get and something else, perhaps mario odyssey or another mario platform game. Never thought the games would be so bloody expensive, should’ve looked at the cost before splurging £100 on the switch.

I can imagine I’ll get bored pretty quick as I don’t have any games on iPhone/ipad so expect to see it in the classifieds before too long 🙂

Games aren't much cheaper secondhand, at least when you move them on you don't lose much.

Yeah the games are expensive. My daughter likes these Pokemon ones that are basically all the same, you barely do anything, and it's £50; ok whatever but the next game is identical just with a few more Pokemon in it and rather than being DLC like any other game they're pretending it's a whole new title and charge you another £50.

Add what interests you to a wishlist and you'll get emailed when it's in the sale.

Tempted by this at the mo as a driving game:

If you like shooting Fascists then Sniper Elite 4 is good.

Ohh that looks right up my street, I guess all I need is a suitable sd card for the switch and I can download that racing game?, or do I also need a £19.99 yearly Nintendo subscription?

The eshop always seems to have a sale on. Portal companion collection (1 & 2) is well worth £4.58 if you’ve never played them. Same for Inside at £1.69, in fact lots of good indies. The first party stuff like Mario, Zelda etc hardly ever gets discounted but if you buy physical you can sell on for most of what you paid once you’re done.

I’ve probably put the most time into Tetris 99 though, which you get as part of the annual online sub. Games only last a few minutes but easy to just do another, and another, and another.

Indie recommendations:

Brotato
Heave ho
Crypt of the necrodancer
Wizard of legend
Stick fight
Spiderheck
Mini motorways
Mini metro
Untitled goose game
Undertale
Good job
Over cooked
Lovers in a dangerous space time
Risk of rain

I also spent £5 on cities skylines and lost a year of my life to it.

Lonely mountain downhill for some MTB action. Has a very chilled vibe and comedy physics for when you fall off, which will happen a lot. Just like in real life!

Stick fight

My lad was obsessed with this for a while.

Infuriating for me to play with him, way too fast 😀

Aim with right joystick, use shoulder buttons for jump/shoot/block, is my top tip.

That was my secret sauce for all of about a week before I told them, then I was back to losing again.

Well that’s been a waste of £145+, within 5 mins of Zelda my fingers and hands cramped up and I can barely stretch my fingers out enough to hold my Apple Pencil as I type this. I should’ve realised it was a daft idea with my spms to think I had the dexterity and control for the switch but at least I now know. With no feeling in my fingers at the best of times I couldn’t really feel the keypads or buttons in use so it’ll be going on STW classifieds.

I’m at that stage of being royally and totally ****ed by spms

Anyone want a switch lite in turquoise with Zelda BOTW? for £135 posted?, when my fingers/hands start working again ill post on classifieds

For whoever buys it....
Human Fall Flat
Unravel Two

Amazing cheap indie titles, played alone or better with a friend

What about looking into some games that rely on the gyro controls rather than pressing buttons and thumbing joysticks?
MArio kart even lets you steer with gyro wheel.. though I guess you need a full fat switch for the joycons?

Tried to list advert on classifieds but there's an issue with uploading pics (returns error) so I'll list it here,

Nintendo Switch Lite with Zelda Breath Of The Wind game, bought today.

Only used for 10 mins, discovered I can't use it due to my spms. Bought from a mate on another forum on Monday 26th Feb for £105 posted.

Factory restored. No original box but does come with original Nintendo USB C wall charger.

£135 posted, will be securely packaged.
