I'll be impressed when they can make a robot that can do both tasks 🙂 although I fear this is only a matter of time...

On a bit of a tangent, the Scottish video did stir up some strange feeling of empathy. I know its a machine, but it did elicit a similar respond as some bullying videos you see.
I hope the guy with the hockey stick doesn't live to regret his behaviour there, what with the singularity n that.

that video would be perfect if someone came in and tried to kick it over (will-i-am) but it dodged it and then they started dancing together.

truly amazed by that. is it definitely real, not CGI?

That's the most disturbing dance scene since Silence of the Lambs.

That dancing dog thing reminds me of the insects from Starship Troopers and that’s not a good thing. Also, why did they make its head so small, just makes it look frightening

It’s more a hand than a head really, so needs to be small to work doorhandles properly!

Impressive how Atlas can manage some thing that most of the people can't do.

Both joking a serious for a second here..

If one was programmed to kill Trump and they got it close enough to launch an attack, there would be nothing the secret service could do to stop it......

Thought that too. Sort of underlines how humans are soon to be outmoded. Computers aren’t that far away from being able to do the thinking AI equivalent of back flips.

well even without going as far as the backflip, the one foot per step is quite impressive as i know a lot of people thatcan't do it.

We are writing the software now, for the robots to think for themselves and make better decisions than us. We've all known we were doomed since the days of Cressers, it's just starting to become closer and clearer now!

This is very impressive, but it is just a very elaborate radio controlled car isn't it?? There's no AI consciousness in there deciding what to do, that's all done by a human with a control pad.

Nope. There is AI in there.

They are not too clear exactly how much is remote control and how much is AI in the videos, but you can see it has a LIDAR-based vision system and mechanics of the walking and balancing actions appear to be an internal feedback as well.

think the basic problem solving, obstacle avoidance and terrain handling is done via AI too.

"Impressive that Atlas .... people cant do"

Actually I was kind of thinking the opposite.... Why have they based it on the human form ?

*

There is a whole world of possible natural forms or crosses of forms that a robot could take to make those moves far more efficient than the human form..... Kangaroo crossed with a gorilla ? .... A flea with a elephant's trunk ??

(I haven't watch all the vids, sorry if there's something up there like that)

Or what about something completely different ... non organic ??

Whoops .... I've seen it now.... sorry

As you were

If one was programmed to kill Trump and they got it close enough to launch an attack, there would be nothing the secret service could do to stop it……

You could place a series of shin height obstacles in front of it and casually stroll off as it pisses about getting lined up to step over them. You’d be in the next county by the time it’s cleared four.

Spot's dancing is impressive, but it'll never match the grace and elegance of a skilled human performer:

Ive seen that guy dancing in the flesh in Falmouth

He was raking in, by my rough estimate, about £80 an hour.

Mostly because so much existing infrastructure is based on that form. A human shaped warehousing robot doesn't make sense if you're building a new robot warehouse but it's great if you've already got human warehouses all over the place, frinstance. A robot that slots right in place of a human is really useful
