Shure e420's from play (or a step or two down the range if thats too much), are amazing and better than the BOSE hype

I have the bose in ear and my opinion is that they sound great and not hype, not tried shures so can not comment on those. It’s a difficult one though as what I think sounds good is not the same as the next guy so for me it’s BOSE plus I find them extremely comfortable and they never get dislodged.

I didn't rate the 420's bass response. Infact I lent them to my ex and she kept them, but that another story. I ended up getting another set of SE115's which for the money are bang on I reckon and as good as you need for an ipod.

according to the reviews SE115s rate higher than the tri ports but are the same as IE2’s so the 115’s could be a winner and save you some cash too 🙂

I got them for £150 a while back but looks like they have changed the range slightly since then. the lower end shures such as the 115 mentioned above are well worth a look though.

Fourbanger- I would actually aggree that they are not the best available if your music taste is dance or heavy metal but I really like the sound profile they have as it suits my music taste (more acoustic)

You'd need to try the Bose (at a Bose shop, obviously) since despite coming in 3 sizes they're a weird fit. Some people - like me - don't get on with it at all.

If you can find a pair Ultimate Ears SuperFi 3 Studio's are excellent, but have now been discontinued. I got a new pair from eBay for £30, usually £50, and they have the distinct advantage of replaceable cables, which are fragile, plus you can swap the existing cables for ones with a remote and microphone. I would also recommend very highly Denon 'phones, which are stunningly good.
http://www.iheadphones.co.uk/denon-headphones.html?gclid=COH84YzS3aYCFc0f4QodnmfXzw
The AH-C252's are only £19.95, and the AH-C260R are £39.95 with a remote. Exceptional 'phones, and really well made, a mate bought an original pair of AH-C550's several years ago when they first came out after going through three pairs of £80 Shure's in eighteen months. He's never had an issue with them and loves them. I have a habit of breaking wires because of the way I carry my phone, so replaceable cables are a must, but $400 for Shure's with replaceable cables are out of the question. Although, having said that, I think Denon use an angled plug, so there wouldn't be the stress on the cable where it sits in my pocket. Go for the Denons, I don't thing you'll regret it for an instant.

best in ear headphone are by far are the jvc marshmallow.

sqeeze the foam section with your fingers and they dont budge, dont fall out the ear and the bass and sound is incredible especially for the prodigy 😉

the are far better than the bose in ear versions which i sold on after i got these.

I had some shure ones, sounded great but I didn't like the fit and the cable routing, then bought the bose ones and the fit was far more comfortable. I don't like the feeling with most in-ear one of them being jammed in so the bose were way more comfortable and still a big improvement over standard ones.

I've had a pair of etymotic er6i's for years. They are fantastic, can't recommend them more.

Been using some goldring inner ear phones for a couple of years. Best 40 quid I've ever spent. Think they're a bit cheaper now too.

My ER6is had great isolation but I thought they were very thin and bright sounding and had to EQ them. Then had some Shure E3C and they were great but eventually wore out. Now got some Shure SE530s and love them, but they are expensive.

I will never buy anything Bose, overpriced and overhyped, especially that acoustimass stuff.

Agree bose is possibly not the best headphones (do like the sound dock though), but that etymotic are stunning. I have er4ps that have been going strong for a 3 years, still far and Way the best in ear headphones i've ever used.

The sound could be described as 'thin' if you are used to flabby bass, so if you like that then don't get them, however if you want perfectly balanced lows mids and highs, with unbelievable clarity across the spectrum, they are amazing.

Not tried sure, but I am assured they are also extremely good.

For 85% of the performance, sennhesier cx300s are indeed excellent and are my day to day headphones.
