Bosch Easycontrol - worth the money?

Anybody got one of these modulating thermostats with a Worcester Boiler? Are they making real savings over an on/off thermostat? We currently have a Honeywell wireless thermostat - installed about 10 years ago before i was aware  of  modulation. It’s good but does not support modulation on the Worcester boiler. Tado and Hive options will give Smart Control but not, I believe modulation.
Another advantage claimed for the Easycontrol  is increased comfort and boiler life.

Any thoughts. Thanks

I doubt your old boiler will be able to alter the flow temperature on the fly by using a smarter thermostat?

Are you mixing up how minimally the boiler can run with the more modern versions that can modulate more and alter the flow temp once the central heating has warmed the house up?

Sorry old boiler has died so new 4000 boiler going in that has options to alter flow temp and alter heating output. And is compatible with Bosch so we can keep existing control or spend ££ on Easycontrol. If Easycontrol installed with boiler it will have a long (10year) warranty.

If you're installing a new boiler I'd be avoiding Bosch. I have one with probably the same Honeywell controller and have had the same thought process, the fact it doesn't use Opentherm is a massive PITA.

I bought the Bosch easy control for my Worcester boiler. Got it fitted and it was awful. Doesn't connect to 5ghz wifi, pain to connect to the boiler, screen on it is genuinely awful, controls are slow at best, app looks like it was made pre 2007 and to top it off it didn't work so I sent it back. Had a nest in another house which was better in every single way.

Thought about getting a Tado for this house but just cba.

That’s certainly the impression I get from reading past threads and other info. Unfortunately I have already made that decision as the new boiler drops straight into the same location and pipe work as the old one and at this time of year speed of installation took precedence.

Did watch a Heatgeek video with Tado that implied they were going to reintroduce the modulation compatibility with Bosch for their wireless set up - but nothing on their website suggests that has happened.

Just interested to see if anyone had positive experience with Bosch’s own system.

@catdras. Posting overlapped. Think maybe you’ve answered my question! Or sowed reasonable doubt.

Much though it pains me to say this, but I’d go with the Bosch easy control. There are opentherm>BoschEMS convertors, which in theory allow you to modulate from tado/hive/netatmo/whatever to a Bosch boiler, but from my own experience they are crap.

As usual I reckon Bosch will have to be dragged into a standards based approach by legislation rather than any willingness to do the right thing.

@hot_fiat sounds like you think it’s worth paying for the ability to have modulation?

In this day and age I think you need to try and eeek out as much performance from a heating system as you possibly can. Smart modulated control is one way to do that.

Find a boiler that's Opentherm compatible as this gives you a much wider range of control options than the walled gardens that many manufacturers choose to use. Even the cheap and cheerful Drayton Wiser thermostat supports Opentherm.

(Oh, and I wouldn't have another Bosch boiler).

Had a new bosch boiler about 18 months ago with Easy Control. Not got anything to compare it with but no complaints. Does everything i want, scheduling, boost, away mode etc.
It is only 2g but that's fine as my router does 2 and 5

Got a new Bosch boiler and EasyControl last summer. No complaints and (as we have Apple kit) I’ve used Shortcuts for some voice activated control.

Another happy Bosch Easy control user here. Installed with new Worcester boiler 2 years ago. Gas use down 40% although much of that due to old boiler being a 35 year old Baxi.

In 2 years only Easy control issue was having to reinstall the app after an upgrade.

Can control from phone but usually just tap the screen. One tapshows outside temp, room temp, thermostat setting, whether boiler is burning and how much.

Seems fairly intelligent. Set a temp 1 or 2C above current room temps and it only partly fires up. Set a higher temp and it fires up higher to get up to temp.

Haven't used any other modern system to compare it to but perfectly happy with the Worcester boiler and Bosch control.
