Double glazing fitted in 2009. Realised last week there is a crack in the frame of the kitchen door near the hinges. can't think of any reason this could have happened so we thought we,d look up the paperwork as we knew it had a 10yr guarantee.

It seems, if I read the paperwork correctly, we were supposed to fill out a return to the insurance company within 30 days to get the certificate. I have a certificate number, but we didn't do the return. Never had this before with any other insurance policy. Both of us missed it.

So, expecting that means we actually don't have a 10yr guarantee like we thought. Anyone had a similar situation? Was it honoured?

Have a fensa certificate but I don't think that is relevant

Who was the fabricator? A vast amount have gone under since 2009.

No mention of the make in the paperwork, will it be on the frames?

Company who fitted are still in business and have a good reputation.

The company who fitted will tend to be the fabricator. They buy off the profile suppliers such as eurocell, synseal hl plastics etc. Your guarantee will be with them and not the supplier/manufacturer of the profile

Will give them a call in the week, but it seems the guarantee was with a separate insurance company to the fitter

I think the insurance is only relevant if the selling company folds.

Don't mention the paperwork. Just you want it looking at under the guarantee.

They may not even think to check. It was lost in the post etc.

Worth a call definitely. Just re read your first post, has the profile failed at the welded mitre joint or actually cracked down the hinge side length? If so I'd be suprised as there is usually ally profile inside the frame for strengthening.

Morning, it's cracked the whole length of the door frame both internal and externally close to the wall on the hinge side. It is a very fine crack, initially didn't see it but when it got really cold and windy last week could feel a draft coming from it. It isn't dead straight so not part of the design.

The door itself seems secure and doesn't flex at all, so confused as to what has happened it may have been like this for sometime and only the storm made us notice. I'm tempted just to run a bit of sealant across the crack.

Yeah the ally reinforcing strip will be doing its job regarding the door. I'd definitely be giving them a ring as I can't see its anything you've done.
