Where are people buying as their daily socks? Not their special weekend socks, or riding socks?

The last ones I have purchased are from M&S & I've had them since April this year & my toes are beginning to poke through now.

Or is that a good sock life & I'm expecting too much?

Scruffs worker socks from Toolstation.

They're the shizzle.
3 (pairs) for a tenner.

Under Armour Tech Crew for pretty much everything including riding and hiking.

£10-12 for 3 Pairs depending on where you buy them from...

Falke merino wool. Not cheap, but they last and are very comfortable. Also their family cotton range, again long lasting. ideally bought in the sales. Otherwise three pairs of OddSocks, because I like the colours. Have plenty of M&S including their Autograph range, but the quality has gone down. I believe in spending more on underwear because you wear it a lot (I hope)! Socks included.

Nothing boring about socks 🙂

I discovered Gold Toes years ago on a work trip to the US and would highly recommend. Quick search shows they're available on Amazon:

Depends what you're doing in the day?

WFH? - I live in MoreMile running socks, they're cheap, comfy and I have loads of them

In the office? Some kind of M&S cotton rich dress socks

In jeans or more casual? Stance crew socks.

Either way, sounds like you're getting through your socks very quickly, may I suggest you look at your toenail cutting regime?

Danish Endurance for me (usually the bamboo 6-pack ones from Amazon...), they seem to last well (but I have 20 or so pairs in total and rotate them so hard to say how long they typically last.

Another vote for Stance here. Nice and snug without being tight. I have a variety of M&S, etc. but the Stance ones are the pick.

The last ones I have purchased are from M&S & I’ve had them since April this year & my toes are beginning to poke through now.

Or is that a good sock life & I’m expecting too much?

Depends on your toes and your shoes really - do your toes wear holes in all your socks?

For a time, post covid, pretty much all socks were bad I seem to remember a stat that whatever brand more than 90% of the worlds socks are all made in the same city, and whether it was bad cotton harvests, of lockdown related labour issues I can't remember, but whatever your go-to sock of yore you either couldn't get them or they were worse than your remembered.

I presume things are back to normal now. I always bought Pringle in the past becuase they seemed to be everlasting for me and held off replacing them becuase there were reviews suggesting a big drop in quality/longevity - and actually they just werent on the shelves anyway. But when they did reappear (boxes of 4 pairs in costco are there same piece as packs of three elsewhere to seem to be back to how they should be.

So your M&S socks might be better now. But if you always wear the toes out get your toes fixed or buy some shoes that fit 🙂

Daily socks for me have to be 100% cotton, I've no desire to be wearing synthetic socks unless I'm doing sport.

Bamboo is an option, but I find them too thin and too fragile.

I got a free pair of bamboo socks in the post once, well I say I did but in reality they weren't addressed to me but a previous resident. Either way they're bloomin lovely and comfortable and slightly thicker in a good way than your regular sock. I did ask for another pair for Christmas but they're not as nice.

From a similar previous thread, someone mentioned some socks that had a ridiculously long life expectancy because of a "special weave". I thought they were called "Blue... something" and ordered some. What turned was these:

https://www.sockshop.co.uk/products/mens_2_pair_storm_block_with_blueguard_sports_crew_socks?colour=Black

I don't remember if they were actually what I ordered but they're a good thickness, feel robust and comfy.

Bamboo socks from TK Maxx. Lovely and soft, stay soft after multiple wahes. Maybe not as long lasting as cotton if you walk around in socks but fine now I'm old and have slipper.

Did I mention how soft they are?

M&S's merino for me, I've a draw full. They last ages and a simply nice to wear.

Gentle Grip socks, very comfortable, available in variety of colours/patterns and perfect if having your socks pulled up isn't something you give two shits about.

M&S Cotton-rich sport socks, black. I’ve got enough pairs to wear a pair a day, for a month, with about another week or two in reserve. Every so often an old one will wear through, I’ll keep the odd one ready to match another odd one later. Some of mine are at least fifteen years old by now. There’s also the thicker M&S boot socks for the cooler months.

Cheaper socks tend to be made in 1 size.

My feet are size 11.5 so some socks just about fit and others really don't (looking at you BAM). I try to find socks that are 9-12 or XL. It's frustrating as I'm usually between sizes. Woe is me.

I picked up some cheap Grisport "hiking" socks the other day, 3 pairs for £6 or something.

I would never use them for "hiking" but as an everyday sock they are really good.

Hmm bamboos just another viscose/Rayon  thang

Rayon is a generic term for all man-made cellulosic fibres (MMCF), this includes Tencel (Lyocell), Viscose and Cupro fibres. The cellulose pulp feedstock can come from many sources, such as eucalyptus, or bamboo.

calling it bamboo makes it sound natural and good for the environment.

M&S or Penguin branded from TKMax, half are merino other half cotton.

I've given up on rayon/bamboo things as they don't last.

Mountain Warehouse are selling socks half price with any other purchase, so 3 pairs for £5 is a bargain right now.
