Had a great day yesterday boozing in the sun prior to the Kasabian gig in Leicester.
At the mo I'm lying on the sofa with my left leg elevated after feeling a 'bang' sensation go off on my heel which was brought on by a pogo-ing session right down the front. After a fair bit of hobbling around not being able to put any weight on it and concerned looks off the security I was hauled over the barrier and taken straight into the Red Cross tent, where after a few prods and tests they confirmed I'd torn my Achilles and was facing 8 weeks in a cast - gutted was an understatement!
After a very slow crawl down to the hospital in an ambulance and a good few hours waiting around the diagnosis got a lot better - a partial tear and no cast needed.
Getting downstairs an hour ago was bloody painful and cumbersome.
It's hardly the end of the world but I can't ride for 4 weeks and and I'm bored sh*tless already 😕

Lots of pain killers and take it easy. I suggest DVD box sets, Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones, House of Cards etc

I guess we won't be seeing you for a ride and a pint on Wednesday evening, then!

You see, you go having other interests outside of biking and posting on here and look what happens.

Hope you get better soon, I've never done that particular injury, but I'm told it is pretty painful. The fact that you probably only first felt it properly when you woke up this morning with a hangover made it worse, I imagine.

Don't rush the rehab, I'm told it is not one to risk. As you now know, I think they pretty much 'go' or they don't, so rushing it is likely to put you back to square one.

I've not had much of a better day if it's any consolation, found two wasps nests and a bumble bee nest in our loft today.

I'm 99% certain the wasps are dead after a chemical attack that might have the UN contemplating air strikes against me. But the bees are more difficult to get at, and still in situ.

I'm determined to get out on Wednesday as it might be the last time I make it for 3-4 weeks with a combination of work and then holiday conspiring against it.

I snapped my left Achilles tendon completely after a small off riding locally 3 years ago.

Having to ride 6 miles home was fun, but not as bad as the wife yanking off my trainer at the heel in the hospital.

As echoed above please make sure you listen to the medical staff and keep the stretching exercises going for many months past the initial recovery.

Mine healed without surgery by using a Vacoped inflatable boot thing and whilst the feeling of bending at the ankle was very strange after so long fixed it does get better.

Not sure how long a partial tear takes to heal, but listen to your body and take it easy.

If you need any selective advice please give me a nudge.

Ruptured mine in November last year. No cast required. 3 weeks off bike. Lots of stretching. And then more stretching. Did I mention stretching?

I guess it's now about 90-95% of where it was pre-injury. Still get twinges, and my calf on that side tends to ache and stiffen up after strenuous exercise. Obviously, I'm not stretching it enough 😳

3 weeks off the bike !

I had to wait 8 before I could try and walk properly. It was 4 months before a tentative bike ride, and nearly 6 before a proper off road ride.

Either way, quite a nasty injury.

Thanks all.
Went to work yesterday which wasn't the best idea I've ever had. Bloke in work ruptured his a while back and it was 2 years (!!!!) before he was fighting fit again - has a smaller calf muscle on the ****ed leg now too 😯
Currently laid up in bed with ice around the offending area.
Praying it's fairly minor as reading threads about 'what Lakes routes?' is making me very jealous! 👿

In a similar position, (different injury) not as bad as yours though I hope, week 1 of 6, no driving, riding, running. Post surgery, ice 15 mins every hour etc, off the pain killers now, so no longer having to pass a brick every morning! Reviewed energy/broadband deals etc, slowly running out of things to do other than reading & watching sport. I'm crap at doing nothing, driving myself & family mad.

Hi Rascal.

My left calf is now noticeably smaller too. It doesn't take too long for it to waste away.

When you start the stretches make sure you also strain and test the good leg as well as it will have been taking a bit more strain whilst the injured one repairs.

Stretch stretch and stretch - when the time is right.

As I'm local I don't mind meeting for a drink one evening if you have any concerns. :o)
