Going through the minefield of booking a family holiday for my good self, the Mrs and our two teenage girls. Getting absolutely flummoxed with the choices and can't believe how expensive it is turning out to be!!
Looking at Majorca mainly, possibly Portugal, but open to suggestions from anyone who has grabbed a decent deal and ended up somewhere nice!!
Cheers.
What are you wanting out of the hols - beaches and a quiet time or good nightlife?
As above, plus - Budget?
When?
Edit: Costa Brava round Girona is nice, there are some areas that a bit naff but we went to Platja d'Aro a couple of years back and I'd be happy to return.
When - beginning of August
Budget - anything up to a couple of grand
What are 'we' wanting - beach for her and the kids, bit of biking or anything non beach related for me!!
Went to Minorca a few years back - found that nice and peaceful, beaches were nice and not too bad with a bike
Think you might be struggling at 2k for 4 people in August

Great mountain biking as well as all the windsurfing. But get up early for the bike as August will be hot!
(and the girls might like the view of tanned windsurfing instructors..)
Edit: sorry, just saw budget - perhaps hang on for last minute deals?
I have a rental villa Med coast Spain. 2k-3k would do it but most people take 2 weeks so flight costs are spread over 2 weeks, not 1.
Most decent villas have gone by now though, best flight prices were in nov.
Good luck in the search, there's loads out there but you get what you pay for.
We (2 adults,2 kids) went to Montenegro last August, Prancj near to Kotor, for 2 weeks.
Self catering apartment in an old venetian merchants house, right on the waterfront. Jet2 flights from Newcastle to Dubrovnik. Pre booked hire car from the airport.
Cost less than £2k easy.
Our apartment was small but comfy enough. Granted our kids are a bit younger than yours but there is loads of alternative accomodation.
Stunning part of the world. Swimming in the bay every day from our doorstep was beautiful. Food decent enough and cheap. Local beer ace and 1euro70 for 1/2 litre. Loads of well marked footpaths up the many mountains from the door of the apartment too.
Downsides - roads shocking condition by UK standards. Other drivers were OK though. Beaches crap - shingle and crowded since there are so few good ones in the Kotor area. A bit Eastern european and not many Brits about but we saw this as a plus to be honest. Biking might be a bit scary on the road, but the scope for MTB is immense.
Would go again anytime.
Puerto Pollensa on Majorca. Good beach with snorkelling for them, boats out to Formetor take your bike along Pollensa & the north coats.
Turkey if you can find somewhere to fit your budget. Icmeler is busy, but nice with a decent beach and plenty of choices for eating or drinking. Calis beach is nice, but a fair bit quieter. Side is nice too. I would avoid Marmaris.
It will be scorching in August though. Absolutely scorching.
+1 for Puerto Pollenca in Mallorca. You've got lots of decent self catering options there (as well as a good selection of hotels), it's not bucket and spade brigade - nice restaurants, peaceful, good quality restaurants... and great riding 🙂 £2k might be pushing it a bit, but probably SC should do it - with an Easy Jet / Monarch flight there and back?
It'll be pretty warm though, but get out early and back by late morning and you'll be ok. Popular family beach that's close to the town, good bus routes and service around the island from there so you won't need a car and if you shop around, you can save on the transfer from the airport. Hire a bike from Pro Cycle Hire rather than take your own and you'll be sorted. HTH.
