Anyone got any suggestions on good reads on understanding, accepting,/ preventing the realisation that your life is pointless, meaningless and almost over?

Let me know if you find anything. So far, it seems that's just how it is.

The struggle itself towards the heights is enough to fill a man's heart

Well Simon. That bit on your link certainly jumped out as being very apt.

This is a good place to start. Enjoy (I started mine when I was in my 20's!)

ETA obviously tongue in cheek, but also, actually maybe not so much as you might think. Make sure you are doing something for you, as that is absolutely not pointless or futile.

Embrace it. Many of the world's troubles are caused because most humans have an overblown sense of their own importance/significance 🙂

Have you bought the sports car and got yourself a twenty year old on the side yet ?  If not, you are doing OK.

What about a twenty year old sports car? Does that count?

You've clearly "understood" so you can't "prevent the realisation" and you're presenting the phenomenon as fact so you've also "accepted". No point reading mtivational bollocks books about it then. No suggestions beyond don't waste the time that's left reading  books telling you how to think.

I haven't read the whole book, but I remember this extract from Man Down by Matt Rudd that was published in the Times: https://www.thetimes.com/life-style/health-fitness/article/why-men-so-unhappy-man-down-bvc6vwx6b

It's not about "mid life crisis", but about the unhappiness that often afflicts men who "should" be happy.

Make sure you are doing something for you

my wife has agreed I can go out to fetch myself a large doner kebab after the kids are in bed, and accepts this is no insult to her cooking, but that I’ve simply had enough of pesto pasta.

Does that count?

The Force of Creativity? It's £130, and is about Lego,    Star Wars Lego.

If that's not a midlife crisis book I don't know what is. It's on my Christmas list.

Not very helpful, but isn't this just blatantly obvious right from the start?

Forget books. Ride your bike. Do things for other people. Do things for yourself. Get away as much as you can. Don't blow all your dosh on stupid consumables. Stay connected with your social network. You'll be happier, healthier and live longer.

After reading lots of books books on the subject I found acceptance of “it is what it is” with regard to everything less stressful than trying to work out why all the books didn’t work.

I'm familiar with the kebab euphemism, but pesto pasta?? Possibly TMI
