I didn't want to hijack globalti's thread about his collarbone, but wanted to ask something similar about my own ribs.

I won't go into the details around my accident again, but part of the story includes six broken ribs. That was on the 30th October. Everything has, so far, been healing nicely (even if I think the most recent consultant at the hospital was a little glib), but no one has really asked about how the ribs are coming along.

In any case, I have had a bad cold over the last few days and have been sneezing and coughing. Then suddenly, about two days ago, one spot on my left side started to hurt more than anything else since the actual accident.

What's up with that?

Two months after the fact, is it normal for a rib to start hurting that badly? Could I have broken it again? It hurts like I did. I mean really, really hurts.

Can bones heal that inconsistently? Or take that long?

N.B. Before you suggest "go see a doctor", I do. But I really don't want to waste anyone's time, considering the most they will do is give me another x-ray, and say that it's still broken. If it's even that...

It’ll be your intercostal muscles that are giving you grief, they join ribs/diaphragm together and are used in every breath you take, they also take ****ing ages to heal.
