Just stumbled across this video of the bones brigade back in the day at livi. I use to visit every weekend so to see my heros skate it was one of my fondest memories of my early years. Tony Hawk was there as was Bucky and I was astounded that anyone could skate the big bowl like they did. It looks a lot more intimidating in real life, and when you are 13!

anyone else there? And if so what year was it? 1990 i reckon

footage a bit grainy and the tricks have come on abit since then, but for nostalgia purposes alone worth a watch! The highlight of my entire life was watching the mctwist landed around 7 min in..

We had a BMX roadtrip there in the 90's and had to sweep the glass and rubbish out of the bowls before we could ride. Wasn't as good as our annual pilgrimage to Southsea.

We once went only to find the bowls were covered in ice. Spent all our lunch money on de-icer at Halfords so we could ride

not only did we get in a session, but had the added benefit of getting high from the fumes..

I'm in that crowd somewhere, busiest day ever at Livi.

That bowl was (is) something else- riding a full size halfpipe after was a revelation, everything happened in slow motion compared with the tight whippy Livi bowl. Seems there's efforts to get it listed at the moment.

@mtnboarder

can you remember what year it was? A quick google tells me they visited in 1988 but those boards they are riding are a few years after that I think. Also, I’m pretty sure I was older than 11 when I saw them.

Agree on the big bowl vs half pipe comment. I was awful on a half pipe as mainly skated street but avoided even attempting the big bowl for the reasons stated

airwalks out the wee bowl were where it was at back in the day😂

'88 would be about right, maybe '89- I think there might have been another tour a few years after that, will ask a mate if I can find him!

I remember getting the bus to that one from Edinburgh, and any later we would have been driving!

Still ache after sleeping three up in my mates mum's mini at Kenny Omonds house after the skate party- house was so full there was no floor space left..

Hawk looks like he's riding the medallion board with the long stepped nose, would put it at 89/90.

I think there is a few seconds of footage in the "public domain" video. I reckon 1988...

I still remember Dog Town skaters coming to Southsea Skatepark and blowing our tiny minds. More like 1979 that was! Shogo Kubo signed my t-shirt. Legend 🙂

Loving that video ^^^ 😀

Here is another classic I stumbled across. Wasn’t there but I remember this being on tv around the time I took up skating. (Given it was from 1988 the Powell tour must have been a few years later as I was a lot better at skating by the time that one came round)

what strikes me is how crap relative to the Americans the competitors were. Fair enough the ramp is about 3 meters wide, but compared to the skating in public domain from a few years earlier it’s night and day (admittedly that’s a promo vid). The US commentator seems decidedly unimpressed tbf

it does bring back very fond memories however.
