< Cautiously optimistic that this doesn't look too bad, hope they get the tone right. Will be interested how they cover the cocaine and gay sex parties that might not appeal to the older fans of Queen and families who undoubtly would enjoy a movie full of Queen music. Would Sacha Baron Cohen have been a better choice? maybe, Rami Malek is considerably slighter than Freddie and shorter.

He pulled out.

Lots of articles about saying it has been heavily sanitised or 'queer washed'.
I’m pretty sure the older fans of Queen knew of his reputation.
I think he looks very like Freddie, I thought he was slant and not very tall too?
Freddie 1.77m
Rami 1.75m
Mr Robot in a bad wig. I'm out
How about Mika at least he could have done a great voice impersonation of Freddie.
That chappy from Midsomer Murders looks and sounds more like Brian May than Brian May!
and the other big question, who is Mike Myres playing - he's listed as playing characters

Basically why Sacha quit. He wanted to do the story of Freddie and let's be honest, Queen was 80% Freddie. Not telling the story of the parties and his sex life, and death, really isn't telling the true story of Queen.
Worse is I heard they argued about Brian and Roger wanting to cover so called Queen after Freddie. i.e. the Brian & Roger tribute band plus "some other guy" which they labelled Queen+. Story of Queen ended with Freddie.
This'll just be an expensive documentary. We've got tonnes of stuff that already tell us the story about this or that song and arguments they had in the studios etc.
With a substitute director as well after they fired Bryan Singer as it seems he just couldn't be arsed to turn up (as it's probably so dull), I can't see this being terribly good. If it's just the same stuff we know and a bunch of actors recreating stuff we already have footage of, then I don't see the point.
I may be wrong though. I might give it a chance. Doubt I'll go see it at the cinema though.
According to Wikipedia the film will end with Live Aid - their triumph, obviously, and a nice Hollywood ending, but conveniently glossing over any AIDS-related "unpleasantness". Hmmm...

Surely Adam Lambert. Seeing as he is Freddie+
That's a lot of negativity.
I've watched the trailer a few times now, 'Freddie' seems over-blown, almost a caricature but then, you watch old videos of Freddie and that's exactly what he was like!
I'm hoping for a great, fun film, with a great sound track (well as long as you like Queen) a few touching moments, but mostly positive and triumphant - because that's what Queen's music was like.
I don't want Freddie 'straighten out' for the film, that would just be daft, I noticed a shot of woman catching his eye whilst he was on stage - if he's portrayed as some sort of ladies man it would be utterly bizarre, but equally I don't need to see a lot of exaggerated (and just plain fictional) stories of the parties, prolapsed midgets and mountains of coke, because, like a lot of Rock folklore, it didn't happen.
Equally, I don't want to see him in his final days, because Freddie didn't want people to see that, to end at BandAid would be perfect.
As for Brian and Roger and Queen+, I think the trailer makes it pretty clear - it's not a Queen Film per-se, it's a Freddie Mercury Film.

If true, then I'm out. The story didn't end with Live Aid. A few more albums with Freddie working hard while struggling with his illness, determined to bang out songs while he could. Then there's the tribute concert which I went to and was the nearest thing I got to seeing proper Queen. As John was there and it was all about Freddie it still counted to me, but that was the end of it really.
Since Brian & Roger took over influence with the film they do seem to have wanted to avoid the "unpleasantness". To be fair that's understandable for them, and I still feel John quit and went into hiding because he couldn't handle it.
But a film about Queen is more than just what Brian & Roger want. It needs to tell the whole story. Doesn't have to be miserable and warts and all on his death, but it's part of the story.
