Faulty fuel injector on my Z4 35i 2009.

Car has only done 29,000 miles with full BM service history. The coil pack failed on cylinder 5 and then 15 miles later bang goes the fuel injector on cylinder 5.

BMW not prepared to offer anything under there good-will application (Of course they arent!!). The delaer has quoted £1800 to replace all six injectors.

Has anybody else had similar issues? Did you have to replace all 6 or is it possible to do 3?

Supposedly all 6 have to be changed as they bought out a new injector which isn't compatible with the old ones. (Sounds like there almost accepting a manufacturing defect!!)

Any thoughts? good price or rip off?

I think that's the same issues my brother in law had on his (same age and engine).

Car is currently sat waiting outcome of finance companies decision to refuse to take it back and the impending court case...

BMW were point blank refusing to do anything, despite BMW lease and full history, and BMW sold second hand to my brother in law.

No help, sorry.

Difficult to word this without coming across as a bit of a pillock (and that's not my intention) but,, why would BMW feel compelled to do anything to help you out with a problem on a six year old car (regardless of mileage)?

Sorry I can't help with the problem, and it does sound like a huge amount for any repair, but I guess it's a BMW they always seem costly to fix at dealers.

Assume you've tried pistonheads and Z4 owners websites?

Low miles can be a negative too. I would take it to a high quality non-main dealer. If BMW aren't prepared to do anything why give them / dealer the business and pay main dealer prices ? BTW I had a alleged problem with my Audi and when I told the dealer I was taking it to an independent the quote for the repair went from £2,500 to £1,500. Independent fixed it for £100 (basically there was nothing wrong, a fitting had "come loose")

Where are you based? My BMW independent can do things like swap out used parts from their stock to more accurately fault find, something that a main dealer won't do. A main stealer will want to replace all parts in their trial and error big bill approach.

Agree with the above. Take it to a decent independent BMW specialist. The labour will be far less than main dealer and they'll actually know what they're doing. Take it you've asked over on Z4forum too?

Bit the bullet and got it done with an.oil change -£1800.

I did try Independant dealers but very little in it, on the basis that the injectors themselves were the expensive parts.

I do have the 5 remaining good injectors, if anyone has similar injector failure issues drop me a line and I can give you the serial number and you can have them. Replace one rather than 6 new ones is probably worth chancing given its not too much of a fiddly job (from.what I've seen)

why if one broke did you have to replace them all?

You can remove, test, and refurbish the broken ones for significantly less

Woth baring in mind for anyone else with similar issue

As above, why did you not try a secondhand injector or getting yours refurbished?
I have used linky and they run a test of the injectors before commencing refurbishment. Also most injectors are actually made by companies like Bosch and Delphi so genuine parts are seldom necessary

When the wifes' Freelander had a similar problem my Mechanic recommended changing all 4 as the labour is barely more and the rest will die pretty soon. And he wasn't doing the work as he'd not the diagnostic gear.

I suspect you didnt actually have a problem with the coil pack, but it was misfiring because of the dodgy injector.

Take it to an independent.

When I looked into it the labour was the cheap part. Non refurbed injectors were around 250 quid each, so replacing one or 6 is a big difference.

I had always thought that injectors were a part of the car that would be expected to last its lifetime. Sure they break, but that doesn't mean that they are all on their way out?
